Can somebody more intelligent than me figure out if this is possible?
Sorry if this has been gone over on here already, but I haven’t read the boards so it could well have been.
But this extra Premier League game to be played abroad... Obviously the biggest concern for most is the extra game that the players will be asked to play, on top of what is already quite a tough schedule. So let’s say we’re all agreed that that’s the primary objection to stop this proposal going ahead.
Is there any way of having the Premiership clubs enter the FA Cup at the fourth round, as opposed to the third? That way we’re back to the same amount of games, and there’s no problem (if we can somehow manage to overlook the issue of travelling to and from Dubai, New York or Moscow mid-season).
What would be the implications of this? Is it even workable? How would it impact lower league clubs looking to cash in thanks to a nice run in the cup? It’s not as if most Premier League clubs take it that seriously anymore anyway, valuing three league points way, way more than progress to the next round.
Also, let’s just scrap FA Cup replays altogether, yeah?
I’ve only just been running it round in my head, so forgive me if it makes no sense whatsoever.
