clearly the Italian is among us.
S Gerrard (Cpt)
deserved all the stick he got for his pineapple hairstyle
Hopefully Gerrard will break his leg in a one-on-one with that Swiss goalie that used to play for West Brom's reserves a few years back and all will be forgiven.
Read my lips the man is O-V-E-R-A-T-E-D.
missed the point and spelt incorrectly.
one-on-ones against such goalkeeping greats as Mark Bunn and Joe Anyon.
He looks like Screech.
he just looks weird
but I heard the news and thought of you Dom :)
myself but not surprised either.
Stevie G is a marketing and merchandising man's wet dream, so why should the English FA be any different?
by that measure DB23 would be set for cap 100.
Still, I think you'll have a Nottingham boy partnering him...
based on his performances over the past 6 years in an England shirt?
Come on S_B, even you aren't that daft!
sure he rarely turns up for England, but the alternatives are scant.
I was just disagreeing with you regards the marketing thing. He's marketable because he's an England international and major Premier League player. Its not like he's Mr D Beckham is it?
I'd have Hargreaves and Jenas starting if I were England manager. And thats why I'm not England manager.
He hasn't shown it for England and needs to deliver performances but it's a new start under a new manager and I don't blame Capello for making Gerrard integral to his plans.
I think a lot of Gerrard's problems for England have been to do with the systems deployed as much as anything and it's up to him to prove he can play in the side Capello is building
If he does so, all the better for England.
If not then it's time to move him on. But I think he's good enough to deserve the chance to prove himself.
English midfielder for 6 years.
How much longer do we have to watch his dire performances because some people think he has potential?
You'll probably still be talking about his POTENTIAL when he's propping up the couch with Shearer, Lineker and Hansen on Match Of The Day in a few years time.
I'm just saying Capello's right to give him a chance to prove himself. If he doesn't take it, he's out. Simple as. Same for Lampard too.
then and people still wonder why the national team isn't good enough?!?
what on earth would Colin Calderood do every week?
I certainly don't expect him to persist. But there's little doubt that Gerrard at his best is better than Jenas or Barry at their best so if Capello can get him to play to his best I want him the team.
If over the next few months it isn't working he has to be out.
If Jenas or Barry had been given the same opportunities that Gerrard has how do you know they wouldn't have proved themselves? Exactly, you don't because they haven't.
JJ is as good as anyone when he's playing at his best, and for the life of me I don't understand why some of our own bloddy fans want him out. Morons.
i dont understand it, i really like jenas.
and Gerrard has played better at his best for his club than either Jenas or Barry have for their clubs.
Frankly given half you're argument seems to be based on him being a Scouser I don't think you can accuse me of having a questionable basis for my arguments.
Lampard isn't a scouser.
Robinson isn't a scouser.
Ashley Cole isn't a scouser.
OK, Michael Owen is!, but the point is, all of these players are synonymous with failure at international level - Wayne Rooney too - and there has to be a cut off point where someone has to grow a pair of bollocks and say "No More".
As for Jenas, I've probably seen him play for his club more times than you - he was at Forest in case you didn't know - so I don't understand your point.
By the same token, I've seen Gerrard play for England more times than any of the others and by that reckoning he has constantly proved he isn't good enough so...?
My point was simply that at his best for Liverpool Gerrard has been a better player than Jenas has for Newcastle, Spurs or Forest (or at least on any occasion I've seen him play for his)
I agree hasn't delivered for England (although, on the few occasions he's been capped, Jenas has done little to warrant further selection either - if it came down purely to performances for England we wouldn't pick any midfielders at all!)
In any case I ultimately think Capello knows a fucking sight more about football than I do and for the timebeing at least I'm willing to trust his judgement.
Owen Hargreaves for sure.
On performances for England I'd probably pick Beckham - Hargreaves - Barry - Joe Cole
but Hargreaves and Barry have only done it a handful of times each. Beckham is getting older and likely won't be much of a force by 2010 and Joe Cole isn't exactly consistent.
So I'm suggesting using previous performances for England as a criteria is maybe not the only one to use.
with so-called "Potential Players" in the past.
The fact John Barnes received 79 England caps o the back of one (admittedly good) goal in a pre-season friendly is scandalous, and sadly, the fact we now live in an even more hyperbole orientated universe means that players like Gerrard, Lampard, Owen, Rooney, Cole et al can also survive well past their sell-by date, if, as in some cases, they ever merited one.
in your horrific vision of the future?
He's a Scouser as far as I'm concerned and forever criticised Cloughie and Forest throughout the 80s because we took their European crown off them for two years.
and he had a moustache.
Once a scouser, always a scouser.
at this moment in time. So is Barry, but we all know there are only 10 available places in the England starting line-up as that scouse scroat must have it written into his contract that if he's available he plays.
and it was carrick who got the boot from the squad.
i mean, no-one can disagree with that, can they? carrick's gone backwards faster than a ferrari stuck in reverse at ManYoo
as much as it pains me
since leaving Spurs in the last 10 years has got better as a player.
Teddy Sherringham. Yes.
Sol Campbell. We saw the best of him I think, but yeah, didn't do to badly for himself throphies wise.
Tom Huddlestone FTW
PS Kanoute obviously.
Yeah, Kanoute probably beats Sherringham. In an ability sense I mean, Teddy obviously got himself a treble.
I can potentially see it in Routledge's case if he gets regular football with Villa. I'm surprised he moved there but he plays regularly he might get the confidence establish himself.
I don't really expect Gardner to suddenly come a top class Premier league centre-back though.
can't argue with Aaron Lennon's rennaisance, but I was well excited when Routledge signed back in the day. I sort of hope similarly for Jermain Defoe, obviously not against us though.
I'm sure he'll come good for Portsmouth.
He's about as good as Gary Lineker outside of the six yard box.
Better than David Beckham at erm, being Jimmy Bullard
I assume he's referring to his woeful finishing.
Jermaine Defoe will be.
I was disappointed we let him go, but you can't really argue with Keane/Berbatov as 1st choice.
By the way the 'Huddlestone FTW' was an outburst that on reflection doesnt make sense in context.
especially given that weve got bent who isnt as good, was further away from the first team, and was more of a waste of money.
I really hope Frank "box to box" Lampard isn't playing and that Tony Daley was called up.
thus, he's not playing
