Shisha/hookas
I'M A STUDENT!!! etc etc
But they're really great arnt they? IT'S LIKE NORMAL SMOKING BUT IT MAKES A FUNNY NOISE AND TASTES OF FRIUT!
And now, in the style of Jeremy Kyle, argue the case for and against shisha cafes and the rest.

it's the only thing about the smoking ban that made me all sad
but they can hardly make an exception can they?
I bet loads still operate anyway
like the Turkish social clubs (a big hall with a pool table) in Dalston and Stoke Newington that have the 'it is illegal to smoke in here' signs. You can guarantee that the old fellas in there smoke.
do you reckon?
i always see them smoking outside - if they tolerated people smoking indoors then presumably there wouldn't be any need for anyone to go out?
casa blue on brick lane keep a shisha thingy behind the counter so when whacky student types want they can smoke on the bench outside.
I'm sure some comply
and others will have people who don't mind going outside whilst the old fellas stay inside
Turkish social clubs?
Brave boy.
what?
i just got a shave at a turkish barbers
wrighty would pee himself
i live above one
.
i'm sure
there are shisha cafes still in operation, there is some exception to the law which permits them
There's a good one near where I live
and though you have to sit outside, it's a nice wee balcony area overlooking a river, so it's cool. They stopped us using the hookas there once the smoking age went up, but in the nicest way possible.
Can you apply for a place to bypass the smoking ban?
Like, state the case for your establishment and get petitions or something? The only people that would be affected by passive smoking would be people who sit in the pub all day (or work in a pub, but whatever...).
I think they should cut down on the band a little bit, but keep it in some places. By "keep it in some places" i mean the places that I personally am not bothered about smoking in, and by "cut down" i mean "all the places I, personally, would like to smoke in".
I'm taking the phrase "be the change you want to see in the world" to a whole new level.
Some of the ones along edgeware rd and that area
now have outside areas with awnings and those heating lamps.
for: they taste nice
against: we used to have one in my old house and it burnt a hole in the carpet. crazy times.
it gives you something to do
yeah
I was disappointed the one time I went to one
Never bothered again and I suppose its too late now
Love them
My first landlord was half iraqi and he introduced me to them. We used to inhale the stuff until we felt sick. God I miss it.
in beirut
you can get it delivered to your house for about 20p. pretty cool.
i don't like it much.
They banned it with the smoking ban? LoL
The new craze that's sweeping the nation in this country is OXYGEN BARS.
They're disgusting.
You like, attach a sort of mask to your face and then breath air that is 92% oxygen and feel like dying.
(H)
I've tried that. It wasn't that great...
made my hangover worse... (did it at a festival)
Just....
...don't try replacing the water with beer before smoking it.
and you get to blow smoke like a dragon!
I used to live on Edgeware Road about 3am smoking shisha
a few years back. It would be the pit stop home back to w. London for my friends and I... I really really really love apple tobacco... and the fooooooooooood... and the music actually.
This is the one thing that pisses me off about teh smoking ban (not really - all of the smoking ban pisses me off and I am not really a smoker very much anymore... as of this year).
I had my own Shish for awhile at home. Ah... memories.
I bought my own shisha
when moving back from Egypt but only used it like once or twice, haven't even brought it with me to uni because I suck.
sisha cafres etc
Are exempt from the smoking ban, although you can only smoke sisha, i.e you cant go and smoke cigarettes in there.
Theres some good ones in hyde park in leeds and a really nice one with good food in bradford.
x
I used to live next to the shisha cafes on edgware road too
mixed fruit was best. Walked down there the other day, everyone was hundled outside. Not quite the same atmosphere really - a shame. If there had been exceptions to the smoking ban, this should have been one of them.
I think they taste and smell just as rank
as other forms of smoking. The Trocadero still seems to overwhelmingly smell of them even though they aren't supposed to be allowed indoors.
Good thread, this
It has reminded to pop to the Grand Joud to have a shisha myself.
It's amazing how many different sickly sweet versions you can get here. The shisha shops in the souks must sell about 50 different flavours. Nice.
i used to go to the one
in fulham in the shopping complex trochadera i think it was called, closed down now i think
There is one on Upper Street, Angel
That still operates. Everyone sits outside, I think they have heaters or something.
