Rare & Racy book shop,
Offbeat indie night.
they wouldnt let us play
as a consequence, i've never been to sheffield
i thought the grapes only refused to do hardcore gigs.
i live in sheffield.
the red house is good for gigs. the cremorne sometimes has good stuff on. bungalows and bears is nice.
heart yeah are playing at the boardwalk on friday. you should go to that.
The Green Room
Only the first of these is really a venue though the other two sometimes have gigs on.
Pubs: The Red Lion and The Rutland are my favourites in and around town. They're both near The Showroom.
i fancy someone from there too. maybe it's you?
bark at the moon

don't read Sandman magazine
it has gone down hill so badly in the last few years.
they write reviews for gigs that didn't take place!!
announced that friday will be their last show.
this is from thee spc forum:
no one noticed my post on the facebook group for the gig in january, or the myspace so i thought id make things official: thee spc gig in january is our last heartyeah gig ever. its the last time you will hear anything off traps, the last time i shout all the way through a set. i want to thank thee spc from the bottom of our heart( no pun intended) for supporting us for so long, and every band, and every person who ever gave us a chance.
the reason for disbanding is thus:
- i dont know how we ended up making this kind of music that we have very few ties to.
-we recorded traps as a document of what we had done and intended to sack it off anyway at the end of recording.
- we hate playing the stuff off traps now.
-we formed the band when we had different ideas to what we have now, and we are older and uglier, and nothing we sung about really has much relevance anymore.
- the band name is fucking shocking.
so, goodbye for now.
thank you everyone.
warren and jack"
sad news they are ace.
they played at my gig in grimsby that no-one came to. but they were good!
but i didn't know that until after i'd spent the entire evening staring at you and wondering why you looked familiar.
yeah, everyone go see navvy!
I will only be in sheffield during the week days not including friday unfortunately.
but you'll end up staying
you mark my words
no one ever leaves...............
& C90 (though mostly weekends) ca both be pretty good if you have time for a later night mid week.
Sheffield Wednesday fans
is my favourite place in Sheffield, Open Decks night every Tuesday is good for electro/house/break beats.
The Forum is bad and overpriced.
Devonshire Cat is great.
I keep on meaning to go to offbeat, but always forget, is it as good as it sounds? plus, isn't the Raynor Lounge really small?
Frog and Parrot do music quite often, but it's usually uncomfortably packed when they do.
More info here
Loads of past playlists up so you can decide if it is good ;-)
It was the Offbeat 11th birthday party last night - it returns in two weeks time (Fri 8th Feb).
As you say, The Raynor Lounge is fairly small, though larger than it used to be (now 180 capacity); so it's best to get there by 10pm'ish to be sure of getting in.
i know all the rave soc people who do the open decks thing in Bungalows and Bears 8)
I really really really love Fuzz Club though. Ace bands + ace music afterwards + £4 to get in is a recipe for awesome!
some DiSsers in Sheffield
look it up on the 'space.
i used to live in chesterfield. rubbish. they can't even build churches.
when it isnt termtime.
go to gigs at the grapes. the corporation used to put on loads of good gigs but not so many now.
rare and racy sell good books cheap.
jack's records is ok. i think forever changes has shut now or something. sadface.
its ok. there isnt much more to say after whats been put above other than to go see meet me in st louis and blakfish at fuzz on thursday!
^ THIS!!!! ^
it is great.
offbeat, fuzz club and cool as folk are the best things.
but I'm a going to see http://www.myspace.com/therossmannfristerproject play @DQ in early feb. I think they from Sheffield so it must be pretty cool..
it keeps me awake at night. a bit.
it's ok in there, pretty expensive though, or it was when i went on a saturday.
Fuzz great of course. Meet Me In St Louis next thurs is the night before an exam, not great timing. Will probably still go.
fuzz can sometimes be a bit hit and miss with the music but i've heard some ace stuff at offbeat (despite people always requesting Party Hard arghhh).
what subject do you do?
but it's a Philosophy exam the day after MMISL, which is yet to be revised for, oops. I think I'll be going to the next Offbeat, but may walk out if Party Hard is played more than once.
had my only exam last week, i'm finishing off an eng lit essay due in tomorrow then i'm free til term starts, which is nice. i left all my exam revision to the day before and it went quite well. revision = overrated
see you at the bar for party hard then
should always be played.
fuzz is always the better for it.
Went to dubcentral at club shhh last night, if you get the chance to go to one i'd recommend it, sick night.
hello fellow sheffield students/residents
MMISL & Blakfish on Thurs = ace. Last day of my exams as well :)
Also, I think Johnny Foreigner and Fury of the Headteachers are playing some DiS thing at the Harley in March. Though I don't know if that's meant to be secret classified information or summat. If it is, I wasn't here, OK? OK!
Thirdly, don't think anyone's mentioned Record Collector in Broomhill yet? That's pretty ace as well. Jack's isn't bad, but yeah.
On top of the Los Campesinos support? AWESOME!!!
Fuzz aren't doing too badly in the next few weeks, what with this and Art Brut on Valentines. Shame they booked Pete and the sodding Pirates AGAIN in between *sigh*... I've already seen them twice since I moved to Sheffield! And they're gash!
though i shall be at blood red shoes instead
that was meant to be a reply to hugechromepeach. Regards pete and the pirates - they were good when i saw them last summer! Though admittedly they were shit at fuzztival
I thought To My Boy were meant to be supporting. Apparently not. Ah well, only went to see goFASTER>> anyway.
