So far so good for spurs, well sort of. dont see us holding out for the full 90. Sounds like the sending off was a bit harsh too.

  • yeah but i think we will be under a lot of pressure last 10/20 mins

might nick one on the break yeah but itll be hard to keep a clean sheet now.

Elano is good, but hes only human. But yeah.

    • Spurs sound more likely to score

Berbatov and Lennon are fucking deadly. Pretty humdrum way to lose our 100% record all told

      • we have been a lot better of late

the game against you and pompey for example. both good wins, and we looked a lot more solid at the back.

i think thats the thing with Ramos, weve now got someone who knows what he is doing tactics wise. Jol was good, but lacking at times.

But yeah you made some good points. I think to really push on we could do with a couple of world class players. like any team i suppose, and its attracting them to the club, however i think Ramos is gonna do the business now.

they sounded like they knew exactly what they were doing. We should be ashamed of not even getting a goal from 10 men at home, particularly with our record.

                      • Juande Ramos for England

(if he can do it in some joint thing where he stays at spurs, and maybe does swindon town every now and then)

I don't know if any of you actually watched this game (grey market internet ftw) but my god.

It's not that Spurs hung on with 10 men for 60 odd minutes against the team in 4th, then got another goal.

It's the fact that a defence that before the sending off looked a bit rubbish on paper, and after the sending off looked fucking stupid on paper, dealt really quite easily with what, presumably, is more or less one of the best 4 attacks in this league.

I can't begin to explain how unlike any team I've ever supported in any game ever this performance was.

                          • It was better than good

it was like watching Arsenal in that season where they went unbeaten, where if things were going badly they'd just defend until they'd suddenly easily score. Except I didn't desperately hate them all, and Berbatov, for all his petulance and obvious irritation is charming and hilarious in equal measure, whereas Henry used to make me queasy.

And, Jenas's nonsense and the 2 2-footed incidents aside, we weren't dirty. We didn't rush but never time wasted, had a period of passing it about with the crowd going "way" at the end. Ridiculous.

So much defending, so casually. Teemu Taino was brilliant. I don't think anyone's ever said that before.

This O'Hara kid would get released by me on championship manager a few years ago and yet he did a really good job in the last 15 and played a superb superb brilliant ball to malbranque for the goal.

City must have had 80+% of possession, and had maybe 2 close calls, one of them off target, one of them saved well by a confident looking Robinson.

I should mention Jermain Jenas's shit dive (they're good at that in Spain, presumably Ramos can teach him...) and the fact that Malbranque's tackle was worse than zokora's, but then I don't buy this two feet straight red no matter what nonsense anyway.

                            thenewge @fucktherave | 18 Dec '07, 22:07 | X
                        • We have an exceedingly poor attack

considering our position in the table. Bianchi's alright, M'penza's substandard and let's not even talk about Darius and fatty Georgios.

But it was exceptional defending for sure. The way they reformed after Zakora got sent off, and still kept the ball going fluidly to Lennon and Berbatov was truly brilliant.

                            • FUCK

why City gotta hurt me so bad?

i reckon we'd have done a lot better if Zokora never got sent off, because maybe they wouldn't have sat with 10 men behind the ball for 70 minutes. Maybe they would have pushed forward, and we'd have been able to hit them on the break with some neat passes into space, our most effective way of scoring. No space, no neat passes, and no fucking strength in holding up the ball. Vassell has the touch of a donkey and Bianchi has the strength of a diseased Shetland Pony. And don't get me fucking started on Mpenza - he makes the effort, but just really doesn't have any class. We definitely need this new guy coming in, someone to partner Bianchi in a 4-4-2 (since he certainly aint a solo striker)

Fair play to Spurs though. They looked very dangerous on the break and Berbatov is one classy motherfucker. We could certainly do with him at City. Defending was solid, but they had so many people doing it that the effectivenes was a given. And i understand that they had to play defensively, but it's just really fucking frustrating for us.

But the cunting, miserable Man City fans. DO NOT GROAN at every fucking misplaced ball you joyless twats. You really think that's gonna help? Show your total support to the fucking team, and if they do something bad then bite your tongue, and clap even louder when they do something good again. Seriously, i get so fucking pissed of at my fellow supporters when they just focus on the negative constantly - and yeah! We're a CONFIDENCE TEAM for fuck's sake - check our home record for the past few seasons to find out the effect a positive atmosphere has on our games. You groaning at everything is going to just make the team much less likely to take chances, to push. You're encouraging them to make constant horizontal passes for fear of getting loudly booed. Seriously, pull your fucking selves together you joyless, unappreciative barrel of cunts. Because you're just going to make it much worse

I'm kind of glad i didn't go tonight, but maybe i could have made a little bubble of positivity amongst the sour twats i call my fellow supporters

                              • Our supporters are such a big bunch of moaning twats

I try to frequent a couple of the City forums sometimes but it gets to a point where I just want to kill them all. Within 20 seconds of the end tonight there was a thread on bluemoon entitled - 'Where do we go from here?' - You'd think we were on the verge of relegation!!!

in some areas of the ground it's a lot more positive, but it's particularly bad where i'm sitting (and most other places as well)

yeah, we need to change our attitude completely, but easier said than done. We're Mancunians after all

"Defending was solid, but they had so many people doing it that the effectivenes was a given"

Have you ever seen a Spurs game? Spurs can't (couldn't?) defend in numbers. Previously whenever we tried it was like watching Kevin Keegan's England.

You could be right about your attack not being all that though. I haven't seen that much of that many city games this year.

                                • ok

defending was better than solid. But the numbers behind the ball played as much of a part

                                  douchebag @thenewge | 18 Dec '07, 22:16 | X
                                  • I see what you're saying

I really do, and I'm sure it was immensely frustrating from a city point of view.

But defending in numbers is a skill, a difficult skill. England under Kevin Keegan couldn't do it, they couldn't do it under Eriksson, Spurs have never done it well, not even under George Graham.

Basically I'm getting really excited about a solid defensive performance against what may be a weakish attack, simply because that;s what we've not had so far this season, a solid defense. And if/when we bring a couple in (or if King/Bale ever walk/play again) then we'll presumably be even better.

And then if we can keep scoring so may we'll be brilliant.

Something'll probably go wrong and we'll finish 11th and lose in the final of one or two cups, but you know.

I can confirm city were dreadful.

We created 3 decent chances despie playing against 10 men for an hour.

Elano looked short of fitness, Petrov was awful and Johnson looked like a lost child.

Sending of was on the far side from me but it looked like a 2 footed lunge. He got the ball but it was two feet, studs up. Malbranque's challenge two minutes after was worse.

                            • ALEX SONG IS A GOLDEN GOD

the man has gone from being a clumsy hate figure in central midfield a year ago to looking like Franco Baresi tonight.

i think i'm actually happier with tonight's win than beating Chelsea at the weekend. watching the first team is always nervy because you expect them to win every game, but when it's the kids you don't expect a thing so it's amazingly satisfying to see them turn over a side like Blackburn. it's almost unfair not to expect anything, because this side could easily make the top 6 in the Premiership.

completely outplayed your lot for all but the first 20 minutes of a two-legged tie though. and you're even worse without Mido because you don't even have a lump for Jenas to aim at anymore.
