Am I just being an arsehole by refusing to tell them any of this?
I just don't see the point of such questions.
if it's not a big deal, who gives a fuck?
by refusing to say anything you're just fuelling their curiosity and so making it harder and more annoying for yourself in the long run.
You work in the public sector, right? It's presumably designed to make sure they're hitting diversity targets, on the grounds that without such a survey they wouldn't know whether or not they were exclusively employing white people. For example.
I always choose 'other'.
It's of no concern to them, in my opinion.
but disagree with their thinking.
As far as I'm concerned if you just employ the best person for the job each time you should end up with an appropriately diverse mix of people.
Asking someone's race to ensure that you don't discriminate on grounds of their race strikes me as a flawed train of logic...
as fair to all as possible, then as you say they should have the right mix of people.
Those making the decisions never get to see it, its for 3rd party records only
"if you just employ the best person for the job each time you should end up with an appropriately diverse mix of people"
"Should" is the operative word here. It's not that straightforward. Working on the assumption that the best person is being employed each time, a survey like this can reveal other factors. Are ethnic minorities under-represented in terms of application numbers? Do they tend to have a poorer level of education or less relevant experience? and other questions. If you establish that the ethnic make-up of the workforce doesn't represent that of the population, you have a platform to start finding out why.
... youre a spy and they want to know if you can be blackmailed.
Then demand permission to pray 5 times a day, take meditation breaks, perform abortions, and er...do other contradictory religion stuff.
How many people want to lynch you then?
I don't think anyone would DARE lynch me. Especially if I wore it as a hat.
it shouldnt matter what you are at all... all people are equal...
IT'S POLITICAL CORRECTNESS GONE MAD
is the most ominously depressing phrase ever
So they can come and look at me and do a big 'white' tick.
But I reserve the right to have whatever theological beliefs or sexual preferences my mad mind dictates.
But I think they will just put 'bisexual cult member' on the database...
if someone asks you a question and you refuse to answer, immediately in their head they wonder why, and you'll probably never hear the end of it. if you just go 'gay/straight/whatever' they'll go 'oh ok' and forget about it straight away.
and tell them to fuck off.
but this informatin isn't used to make decisions regarding who gets a certain job. Of course some poeple/companies have broken the law on matters like this but they are a minority and are fucked when they get found out
Just seems to me its a bit like saying "I'm not going to tell that copper over there I was mugged because he might be bent"
*I know that doesn't work when anaylsed
but then just tick "not disclosing" on religion or sexuality.
There's no box for agnostic and I don't want to tick atheist 'cos I'm not one and I don't want to tick other 'cos I sound like I'm in a cult.
Not exactly a box for sexuality either. There's "hetrosexual" but not "straight but gets strange stirrings watching Tobey Maguire in Wonder Boys"
No-one will read it, no-one important anyway
.... they daren't ask, they have an entire 'Diversity' department and we have to go on diversity training.
Which i refuse to go on, simply because its an insult to your intelligence....
The response they will always get is exactly the same > "why does it make any difference if someone was 'A', 'B' or 'C'"
And no, your not an arsehole, they are for asking though...
