Anti-Golden Compass facebook groups

Smitch [Edit] [Delete] 14:07, 10 December '07

I've just seen a friend of mine left a group called 'Do NOT support the Golden Compass', in which they explain that the books are about killing God (I've never read the books, but the group claim this happens at the end). They apparently quote Pullman from 2003 saying 'My books are about killing God'.

Now, I've never read the books, but from what I've read about them and the film, this isn't the main crux of the books. At the very best, it's anti-authoritian and against the Christian conception of God and the hegemony that has created. Pullman believes in a sort of God or 'higher power', just not a Christian one. Or am I completely wrong? The group striked me as being ridiculous, figured I'd find out if this was true or not.
