Famous moments in books that never actually happen in the books.
I've just read Around the World in 80 Days. Phileas Fogg never uses a balloon.
Before I read it I'd assumed he went around the world in a balloon but, although he uses various methods of transport, he doens't use a balloon once.
This surprised me and I imagine most other people who haven't read the book but know something of it would be under a similar misapprehension.
the film
with jackie chan and steve coogan features heavy usage of a hot air balloon. im guessing the script writer didn't read the book either..
Moriarty jumps
wasn't pushed.
He also only appears in one short story
and then as an unseen character in the last novel.
If you've not read the books you assume him to be this constant arch-enemy but he's actually a really minor presence comparatively.
I've just read wikipedia's plot summary of the film
Any resemblance to the original novel does appear to be coincidental. Which is a bit stupid 'cos it's actually a really good book that'd lend itself well to filming without major changes.
I was disapointed he wasnt a lion
:D
'
Next you'll be telling me that he
didn't find the time to develop a range of crisps and savoury snacks.
sam & frodo
not gay
not quite the same
but adaptations of Gulliver's Travels only ever focus on his first two adventures (and particularly the one to Lilliput), miss out the other two, and are designed for children and so completely miss the point of what Swift was trying to say....
In The Iliad
There's never any mention of a wooden horse. Yet nearly everyone thinks there is.
Isn't it that
"Elementary my dear Watson" never appears in any Sherlock Holmes book or something?
I've read them all and don't think it does
but can't remember for sure.
