do they really not eat savoury pies?

while i was talking to our american intern about xmas, i mentioned mince pies, to which she said, "YOU GUYS EAT MINCE IN PIEEEES???!!!".

i had to explain it wasnt actual mince, but she went on to say that any sort of meat would never go in a pie in america.

is this all americans or is she just weird?
