You can buy an 80GB ipod for £150

yes_ [Edit] [Delete] 27 replies 23:56, 19 November '07

My 30GB one is now full.
In about 2 weeks time I will have sufficient funds to buy a new 80GB one. Hell, I could buy one now.

My question: is it worth it?
Ive had my current one for about 2 years now, and nothing has gone wrong with it that wasnt done by myself by accident. Should I just delete some stuff or should I get a bigger one? I realise theres not much point in having more than 30gb if it was easier to choose what you want to put on it.
"coincidently", it seems impossible to take stuff off the ipod without taking it off itunes. And when you use itunes as your media player, this causes problems.

What should I do?

  • sell your pretty face for sex

    then get a MAHOOSIVE one

    HeartbrokenStar | 19 Nov '07, 23:57 | X
  • Please do

it only lets you choose which playlists to upload onto the ipod, which is stupid. Though im probably missing something.

in other news: £150 for an 80gb is ridiculously cheap. I might even go to £220 for a 160GB just for the hell of it. Seriously, thats just unfathomable.

    • Don't you just uncheck

the box at the far left hand side of each track if you don't want it updated?

      rfscott @yes_ | 20 Nov '07, 00:01 | X
      • I tried that

doesent seem to work. It just means it skips it when youre playing it on itunes

        yes_ @rfscott | 20 Nov '07, 00:02 | X
        • Even if you transfer the songs

manually? Not actually manually, that'd be pretty hard, but that's what it's called on itunes.

          rfscott @yes_ | 20 Nov '07, 00:05 | X
          • Oh I found the "manually" button

            Ahhhhhhhh

Now, the second point: The newer ipods are REALLY REALLY COOL, and i am VERY VERY LAZY, so couldnt be bothered taking stuff off all the time.

Hmm. I'll wait and see if i can afford it once my overtime comes in...
Or just be very nice to my dad and wait till christmas

  • woot woot

To remove items from an iPod other than an iPod shuffle, first make sure iTunes is set up to allow you to copy songs manually (for instructions, click the link below).

To remove songs from your iPod:
Connect your iPod to your computer.
When the iPod icon appears in iTunes, select it.
If the disclosure triangle to the left of your iPod is closed, click it so that you can see the iPod contents.
Select the item you want to delete and press the Delete key.

    • Yup, got it. Thanks.

      This will be useful

  • I too am considering this.

I keep having to delete stuff from my 20GB Zen, and I really don't like it. It seems a really good deal, plus I've never had an iPod before...or a video mp3 player...

    Logical progression?

    IrishMagpie | 20 Nov '07, 18:38 | X
    • Yeah

      Ipods are fantastic
I dont use the video function on my ipod, but its nice to know its there. I loaded a few movies onto it for a plane journey, which was pretty cool.

      yes_ @IrishMagpie | 20 Nov '07, 18:52 | X
  • it's more than worth it

I paid something like £230 for an 80GB when 80GB was the top model, and the new ones are much slimmer too.

  • i'd say delete some of the stuff on your 30 gig

out of the principle that nobody really needs to carry around that much music with them. Having just passed the 30 gig point on my iPod refilling mission i could happily lose 50% of my digital music and still be perfectly content with the remainder. Of course, most of my stuff is on cd as well, but i'm sure you could remorselessly drop quite a lot of your files even if they're your only copy. And depending on how big you're computer memory is you could partake in some manual iPod fillage and maybe an external hard drive for downloaded music you don't want to part with

i'm probably just being a ponce about this, but i really don't think having your hands on so much immediate music is that great. You do tend to lose the value of it all, and the vast quanitities mean you can't really devote yourself to something for more than a week or so at a time - you soon find something else in the vast library to take it's place. You certainly can't feel the effect of pulling something out that you haven't listened to for ages and feeling the initial megablast. Constant global shuffling on all your music sort of takes away the effect..

In my day.. blahdeblah.. truly appreciating.. KILLING MUSIC.. blahdeblah etc.

    • yeah I know what youre talking about

While I do like the idea of that, i'm only a nipper y'see, and so only have about 40 albums or something. It wouldnt make much difference, and the new ones are REALLY cool.
Though there is a lot of stuff I havnt listened to in ages. Long enough to merit deletion.

      yes_ @douchebag | 20 Nov '07, 21:00 | X
    • I see what you mean...

      Hmm.

I've decided I'm gonna go through all my albums in alphabetical order on my Zen. I keep telling myself to do it, but never do.

First on the list is What's The Story by Oasis...

Followed by 4 discs of the Beatles.

      =)

      • Im doing this right now

ive never realised how much music i dont listen to

amongst the culled so far are:
        bjork
        autechre
        incubus

interestingly, i spared parachutes by coldplay

        yes_ @IrishMagpie | 20 Nov '07, 21:12 | X
        • That's the only Coldplay album I don't own.

          This should not be so.

          IrishMagpie @yes_ | 20 Nov '07, 21:14 | X
        • Coldplay over Bjork?

          You're actually insane.

Concerned with artistic merit? My arse.

          MelesMeles @yes_ | 20 Nov '07, 21:15 | X
          • Haha

            DONE: wow, freed up 2GB

amazing, and I didnt even delete individual tracks. Just went through artists I didnt listen to.
Which included bjork. Only album ive got of hers is the one with its oh so quiet on it. Never really captured me.

            yes_ @MelesMeles | 20 Nov '07, 21:19 | X
            • Oh OK fair enough

Get Homogenic. Its actually good (I only ever listen to Post for Hyper-ballad- that song gives me strange feelings).

              MelesMeles @yes_ | 20 Nov '07, 21:25 | X
              • I really need to get into bjork

one of my friends is nutz about her

                yes_ @MelesMeles | 20 Nov '07, 21:47 | X
                • You don't know how lucky you are

Mine is just 1 GB (then again I do hardly ever use it because I like looking at the scenery when I'm walking somewhere like a visually-motivated twat, but... still).

                  MelesMeles @Constellation | 20 Nov '07, 21:35 | X
                • to get the checked/unchecked thing to work

tick the "sync only checked songs and videos" option on the Summary page

                • Dude, think of the environment

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Use the thing till it packs up.
