food safety/trusting scientists
an exchange just now
*christopher sits at his desk, eating ginsters pasty, 67p from polish supermarket*
office wag 1: "WHO'S EATING A PIE???"
christopher: me. ginsters
ow1: massive respect
office wag 2: did you know that the food laws in this country permit pie meat to be kept in deep freeze for 15 years? that means you could be eating something that died when you were 8 years old.
christopher: well, to be fair, scientists know a fuck of a lot more about food storage than we do.
ow1: more than YOU do. (ow2) knows everything.
ow2: you mean to say that you actually find what i said reassuring?
christopher: yes
so: 1: is it true that food can be dead for 15 years without being thrown away?
2: is it wrong to just trust scientists cos they know what they're doing, even if it seems pretty counterintuitive, like this?
