I find this utterly depressing for many reasons.
you massive hypocrite!
Plus it's always good to have a bit of banter with the Aussies, they love it!
And if you see my post below, uponreading the story, I also realised tat this wasn't actually funny, and actually quite awful :(
So if you are looking for a rise you are barking up the wrong tree ;-)
Oh I give up today, I might just go and do my job instead
.. a rare dip into DiS and now it's time to work again.. another meeting. BYE.
that is crazy. How awful
I remember growing up there being hardcore restrictions on water use etc during summer. Lots of damns and rivers I used to swim in as a kid are now completely dry.
But beating up an elderly man and killing him? Fucking disgraceful. 'Scuse my language.
Maybe that's just Queensland but they clearly need to get with it. We've been doing it for years and we're not all fucked up. Clearly the idea of drinking what was once urine or whatever is a bit icky, but them's the breaks.
This is a depressing story, though.
Well.. yes, that's part of the problem.
As for grey water usage, as it's known, I'm not entirely sure that the 'non risk' of it has been really put out there - London's water has been through everyone at least seven times, no? What about the increased risk of testicular cancer in this country due to female hormones in the water? I never heard about testicular cancer in Australia. In fact, it wasn't until my ex has a scare that I knew about it all - turns out it was okay but the doctors told us about the hormone levels in the water in this country and the fact there is a possible link with this cancer and the oestrogen (sp?) levels in the water (in a nutshell, ladies taking the pill, weeing, and the hormones staying in the 'purified' water...)... I try to drink bottled water where I can and my ex to this day will only drink bottled water (scared the hell out if him, it did).
But yeah - I thought it was QLD's who were going to go for grey water usage.. ? Ie for dishwashers and certain environments where it would be okay to use 'grey' water...
Theo, I LOVE how you know so much about Australia and Melbourne ;-) It's my link back to my origin. Ha ha. :D
i have enough freaky oestrogen hormones of my own to deal with thank you very much.
tbh i think this could happen in many - not australia-centric -humanity always goes nuts under extreme circumstances.
But when our friend was back earlier in the year she was in Bris mostly and said how it was utterly mad with the water shortages, but I'm sure said the 'grey water' thing was vetoed.
Personally speaking I'd rather risk losing a bollock to cancer than certain death by dehydration...but that's just KERAZY old me!
i mean, it used to be bad(ish) when i lived in Melbourne from 2000 to 2003 but not to the extremity of neighbours reporting others etc. very sad situation.
about these things - I thought she was just, err, paranoid.. Australia is full of 'do gooders'.. BORING.
