doesn't explain the wack typography on the new logo..... :P
to be honest i'm not that keen on the general new layout but i think it's just a case of getting used to it...and widening it.
came before his chicken, yeah?
and you're investing in the writer which is something I'm not likely to do unless said writer is my pal o buddy oh or something. I read friend's blogs but that is it. I don't write one anymore but I used to on here only because it was purposeful. Who wants to read about my or anyone else's life?
Sean's blog serves a purpose I guess but it's very looooonnnng, still a good idea and the new layout isn't so bad. I'm used to it EXCEPT the bit where my pms look like they're written by a poorly educated dolt because the page isn't wide enough to include all type.
the blog was written, i only stumbled across it because i was bored. Would the majority of users check the blog section on this site? i doubt it. And so the blog then became a thread (i originally created this thread so people would see what the Editor was saying in response to the site changes and didnt think many would see) But then the blog itself got a thread of its own. Anyway im rambling now...perhaps the site should have a link to a blogs section across the top navigation menu so they could have a more integral and prominent role, rather than the small print access in the Community section that it has, that way the important info and response that was conveyed thru blog would reach the wider audience it deserves. Or maybe the blog should have been a thread only and the blog option was a safer way of responding to "the angry mob".
a straw poll of what people do read on here. My DiS reading has changed over the years. I never read blogs until I wrote one then when I stopped I stopped having to go to that section of the site. They could link to blogs here or show the latest updated ones in a column like with the threads so you're on to something there. I'm not personally interested in what DiSer x did on Friday or how he loves his girlfriend more than double fudge cake but if someone wrote about books or film etc etc I'd read it.
the angry mob need to stop whining and realise the new site will have teething probs. Some users jumped on DiS straight away for not having everything they wanted in place.
love my girlfriend more than double fudge cake...oh wait, you said double...mmmmdoublefudgecake
insert_clever_username tells you in a blog that he loves his girlfriend blah blah and they went to the park and sat under a tree reading sonnets to each other apart from throwing up profusely would you read that? I wouldn't. Now if Heartbrokenstar within the framework of DiS writes a blog about say travel/books/cinema/some niche little thing he loves in a well informed and interesting way then I'm there with bells on. However forgive my cynicism but we kind of lost a lot of users with something to say through all these 'what should i eat at noon today' and 'who wants to declare themselves a stupid prejudice nobber not so cleverly disguised as debate' threads.
in depth fudge cake is too good.
I haven't done it for a while, but if you like middle class housewives having sex with domesticated animals then it's right up your street
I seem to prefer writing blogs to reading them, and then get mildly narked that nobody responds to my posts.
Mind you, the last blog I wrote was about writing blogs, which by the law of averages makes me a premier twat.
