Being dropped
So, I got an e-mail yesterday from my rugby captain telling me that because of the final and that, loads of people want to play and in a league game he can only field 18 players. So in spite of being in the original starting line up, I had been dropped as he had to give priority to those who play every week and I had missed last week's game.
Fine, not nice, but he seemed heartfelt so I'd take it on the chin. But then I saw the new team and he'd picked over me a guy a lot more talented who hasn't played all year. In fact the team is full of people who haven't played at all this year.
So how am I to feel? I'm not a great player by any stretch of the imagination, but I turn up week in, week out and slog myself stupid for absolutely no recognition. I know the captain doesn't really rate me, and I know he doesn't really like me personally, so I'm thinking maybe I should just pack it all in. I could find another team, but I like playing with my mates, but apparently I'm not good enough to any more.
Should I kick it all to touch?
NO!
dammit
no
clubs should pick players who train and show up, that's what makes a team...
^^^
Exactly what he said. Captain sounds like right prick
He's a nice bloke
but he seems to hold this unnatural grudge against me just because I was kind of involved with his current girlfriend when we were at uni, a year and a half before they met!
i hate humans.
burn the captain's house down.
Well maybe you're not good enough for that game
He's dropped you for the final which is an important game but that also means it's only when it comes to the final that he drops you, implying you're not the best but you're not far off, no?
It's against the worst team in the league
We put 50 points on them last year
dude, it's like rugby
the ultimate in agression sports, go to training next week and earn you place in the team by making the best tackles ever.
what possition do you play?
^This
keep working hard in training to impress. Obviously it might reach a point where he's not going to pick you regardless (if he doesn't personally like you) but you should try for a while
Problem is we don't have training
but I do do sessions with my mates in the park. We invented our line out system!
Half of me wants to go all psycho and train hard and get amazing, but on the other hand, I'm a bit tired of fighting a losing battle
6 or 8
but HE plays 6 or 8, so I have to play second row just to get onto the bench
Not really.
I can see why you'd be pissed, and you've got every right to be because it doesn't sound like you've been treated fairly. That said, the guy in charge is going to be judged on his decisions. If this one backfires on him, then he's under pressure to return to a winning formula. If it works, then it works, and history will determine that the man was a genius. Either way, I don't think quitting is the right way to go about it
Then
the man in charge isn't capable of being upfront and honest.
What he is though, is the man in charge
Yeah
I can GUARANTEE the guy he's picked ahead of me will not play again for the rest f the season, it's just cos the final is on. And it won't backfire because the team we're playing is gash
You're
clearly not happy with the decision and it sounds like this would probably be the course of events if it ever came up again. If you are upset by it, then maybe you do need to look at playing elsewhere
do you have a lot of mates in the club?
if so, you might just have to bite the bullet on this occasion, but if it looks like being a regular occurence, look at playing elsewehere.
if you don'thave any mates at the club, then there's nothing to tie you there, so sow your rugby oats!
My friends and I make up
half of the starting line up. We all played together at uni, and the rest of them who were in the years above us refer to us as "the boyband". They make fun but they know they can't push too hard as without us they can't put out a team on dark weeks in winter when all the irregulars bail.
well, it's probably a storm in a teacup then
if you feel strongly enough about it and your friends agree, just bail, otherwise, live with it for this week.
you can't really win here
if you sulk, quit, or kick up a fuss about it you'll probably just end up looking like a cock to your teammates.
Yeah
especially since most don't even know my name
I thought they were your mates?
I said most
My mates consist of about 8
well quit / sulk as much as you like then
*half of them
It doesn't sound like its worth it
If you love the game find another team. If you're gonna play your socks off and not get a game then fuck them, you're better than them
That is seriously
cuntish. It sounds like there's others in a similar predicament??
i was lucky when i played football that we barely had enough for a team so i was pretty much guarent
if it's as much a social team as a "grrr, must win" team then it should be a mix of dedication and ability.
i'm sure you'll be back in when the hype dies down.
This really sucks
I'm currently experiencing something similar. I think if you want to stay with your mates then you need to let this one go. But if it continues to happen, perhaps think about another club.
Leave
and take your mates with you
Sadly one of them is vice captain
and they're all loads better than me so they'd go and play for good teams
I was actually suggesting a little solidarity
to make a point for your inclusion in the squad for the final
I think it's grossly unfair (and possibly unwise) that a team that was good enough to make the final should be broken up in order to accommodate 'better' players for a prestige match
Rugby is a team sport after all
The objective in sport is to win
You have not been picked because you are not good enough
Being available for loads of not-as-important games is irrelevant
Not in the ethos in which the club is built upon it isn't
Also this is against the worst team in the league, where as I have happily put my body and dignity on the line against the top teams
"Not in the ethos in which the club is built upon it isn't"
Dear oh dear.... what nonsense is that - is this the 1800s????
don't be a plonker
the objective in sport is not always to win.
?
If a draw is sufficient to achieve success, yes, but, otherwise, it's all about winning
mr t
i don't think you play much sport
What a silly sod
Pompous, supercillious claptrap
you don't though, do you?
RUN AT ME OLD MAN
I'll break you in two
bf
Yes, but what about him?
actually
at the level of sport that most people on this forum play at, committment and involvement in social ativities can be more valuable than ability.
so its not all about winning.
ignore him
he's a fucking ass.
Well I agree
I'm a competitive soul and when I play, I play to win. However, because large swathes of the people eligible to play for us have jobs with long hours/families we have a less strenuous attitude to commitment, so often consistent availability dictates selection.
That's rucking annoying.
Join another team and, in a Mighty Ducks-esque turn of events, score loads of points against your old team and then do that Shooter McGavin gesture at your coach.
LordLuciusBanter
You're cut.
Yeah I know
I've bare knife scars
i'm not selected for our Cricket Club 1st XI...
...despite having the second best average in the club, because the captain genuinely says he can't have more than 3 members of the same family on the side otherwise it isnt good for stability, moral and the 'integrity of his captaincy'. No irony.
Instead they pick agricultural morons. This irritates me. Me and Andrew Straus.
