Old Film Adverts

wrightylew [Edit] [Delete] 18 replies 20:00, 17 October '07

They were so awful, weren't they?

I'm glad I didn't see this trailer before I saw Breakfast at Tiffany's, because it practically ruins the entire film.

  • Old adverts basically rule.

I try to ape the ad man talk of the '60s in FoTB promotional material, but generally people dont understand it! It's all very tongue in cheek and I think it just confuses people. Oh well. It amuses me!

      I love it.

Also funny = those big massive blurbs on the back of 60s records sleeves.

As if the record is a book, like I have a Beatles one and its like: "Track four sees George take us to dark territories with a brooding song of lost love! Here, a story of a bitter man is told, alongside some fine guitar playing!"

      Aww!

My idol as far as this sort of thing goes has to be the great Stan Cornyn: KING OF LINER NOTES!

        http://www.spaceagepop.com/cornyn.htm

        I can't believe I have a liner notes idol.

  • My favourite

Compared to Breakfast at Tiffany's, it seems so utterly modern.

    • That looks so good.

Everyone in it was beautiful. Even the men, and I'm only slightly gay.

      Is it a good film?

      • It's probably the film that most

influenced how I dress. I thoroughly recommend it. And watch it NOW while you're at the right age to appreciate it! It's still totally relevant and brilliant and I really fancied Chantal Goya in it and quickly bought a CD of her GREAT songs featuring her awful - but utterly charming - singing!

        • Is that the woman on the advert?

She sounded like Francois Hardy. I thought it was her!

Can I buy it in HMV for about £1.50?

          wrightylew @BobbyGrindrod | 18 Oct '07, 00:41 | X
          • You can buy it

but not for £1.50. I got it in Fopp for £7, but first watched it at the start of uni. I discovered a vhs in the library and became obsessed with aping Jean-Pierre Leaud in it.

            • Chantal is in the middle

The other girls are/were hot, too.

a better version of Maureen Starr.

  • For Wrighty's argument

The Third Man, amazing film but the trailer is so irritating and lengthy.

    • Hahaha

      awfulawfulawful.

But at least we won't forget the title.

      "The Third Man!"

I'm going to dream about that tonight.

      • :D

i seriously considered not watching it.
