a bit shit.
Much funnier then he is on TV
ross noble. i like his randomness and the way he gets so sidetracked
Ross Noble is the best comedian I've ever seen. And I have seen a lot of comedians.
"He appeals to students"
a bit wrong.
but it should really be acknowledged more.
I saw Noble and Daniel Kitson do a joint secret Edinburgh warm-up show the year the former went on to have the best selling show at the Fringe and the latter won the Perrier Award. Touch me.
he was rubbish on have i got news for you on friday, though.
he's best when he can wander off on a tangent telling a story for 20 minutes like he does live, on tv it's just like "wouldn't it be great if gordon brown had a purple monkey and a tramp in the cabinet. i'm mental me."
so isn't technically a geordie.
you can see Daniel Kitson and Ross Noble on the same night and feel like they are equal in quality. i can understand why a lot of aspiring comedians would see Kitson and think, well, i might as well give up.
But I didn't say they were equal - indeed, as befitted his award, Kitson was superb (and even better when I saw him a couple of years later).
anywhere near equal, then.
i just think that he embodies what is often criticised about 'surreal' comedy, that it's too 'random' and 'wacky', yet he's usually put into the same sort of group as Harry Hill, Bill Bailey, Noel Fielding etc. who are much better at comic structure, timing, and most important genuinely being funny.
