1) Sid and Nancy
2) The Doors
and I thought 3 was pretty good. Haven't seen 2.
Now tell us your 3 favourite so we can get a sense of perspective.
1) The Rutles
2) The Rutles
3) The Rutles
Also, not a real band. FAIL.
You've ruined my lunchbreak!
There was a story in the Popbitch mailout once about Liam Gallagher finding out that Spinal Tap, stars of one of his favourite films, were a joke band. "I'm not 'avin' that," he said, and stormed off...
we get it
you didn't like control
you're wrong though
What gave me away?...its still shit though.
it's awesomely bad, but so,so watchable. If you get a chance, watch it.
was a bit dull. Not seen 2, will see 3 and one is pretty trashy and badly acted but watchable. Th options for this genre of film aren't great?
I remember the gig scene especially well, almost caricature.
is pretty bad too.
this guy I knew did this documentary about Joy Division. In essence it was a half hour of him asking passerbys on Oldham Street "why you think Ian Curtis is dead". Then at the end he performed a song called "Ian is really really dead", set to the tune of Love Will Tear Us Apart
^sid and nancy. It is so bad.
Roffle. I watched the first minute or so, and... OK, maybe you have a point. I've not seen it for a while. I do really like it, though.
As an aside, does it count entirely as bad acting if the person you're playing is themselves really mannered and annoying?
hmm I guess if you're playing someone who is genuinely like that it all depends on how well you ape them a la Jamie Foxx being Ray. I like that film and his performance is spot on. Over saying your lines and sounding like you have the script taped to the camera for you = bad acting = Nancy and that bloody agent at the start. He should've just faxed his performance in.
Its just everything else about it is appalling! I like the bit in Lydon's book '..No Irish' where he turned to Alex Cox after he was shown a preview of S & N and told the director he should be taken outside and shot! - nice one John!
The equivilent today of someone making a movie charting Pete and Kate's relationship.
hopefully they'll have the decency to wait until their both dead before that one's green-lighted.
pete and kate meet, break up, get back together, break up, get back together, break up, get back together, break up, get back together, break up, get back together and he has time to do her a little painting in his manky blood. They duet, he does crayoning with her kid, manages to fit n a gig or two where she takes the limelight and then they.......break up.
Where's the drama?
Nuts to drama. This would be about cashing in about some shit band dude and his starfucker girlfriend that thousands of idiots inexplicably like enough to pay £5 a go to see a rehash of their story at the Odeon.
is in my all time top 5 shittest most unpalatable films ever. SIIDNEEEEY!!!
1) The Cook, the Thief etc
2) The Dreamers
Still working on 3-5.
Why have movies been made about them?
b) are people only allowed to make films about bands you've heard of? You must be a very important person.
replying to Jamie Summers?
I'd have to put Kingdom Of Heaven down in that category, actually, mentally painful. Orlando Bloom's recent theatre turn got bad reviews, crummiest actor in Britain ever?
He was just very fortunate to be the eye candy in two hugely successful film franchises.
Left to carry a film on his own, he's hopelessly inadequate.
Jude Law is similar, although he has done some decent turns in supporting roles.
Well, no, apart from spending a couple of years at the National Youth Theatre and studying at the Guildhall. Not that this makes you a great actor, necessarily, but it isn't like he's an underwear model who got lucky.
He's pretty good though so all told, education on acting is bunk?
Orlando Bloom was also a London scenester club kid I believe - pretty sure I've seen him at the russian bar on kingsland road at horrible o clock before.
LOLd of the Rings.
- taking da piss, ya?
Went right over my head, sorry. Have a retrospective LOL.
