Is there anywhere that will never become that way?
Cape Town is the only vaguely ok African city I could think of.
And obviously it still has huge problems.
Also...you have no idea where I have been, so why don't you just shut the fuck up?
I don't think I have been patronising at all in this thread. I attempted to make a joke based upon the reputation of many African cities.
The tone you have taken suggests to me that you take things rather too seriously...
I asked DiS if in their opinion there was gonna be a place that wasn't gentrified (see the Shoreditch thread).
Someone mentioned Africa. I made a joke, probably a fairly poor joke.
Soup100 comes riding in on his fucking High Horse....
I fail to see that I have been ridiculous in any way. You on the other hand.
Though I imagine something along the lines of western cultural imperialism.
Basically I disagree with you.
is one in which the majority of its inhabitants have access to adequate services etc.
Which have not been the case in the admittedly limited number of African cities I have visited.
Some inhabitants don't receive the services, but not to the same extent as the cities I have seen.
Also anywhere that doesn't have a lovely victorian high street or old georgian houses ripe for renovation.
it makes it hard to believe that people earning 140K salaries are only 16 minutes away on the train. Truly madly Estonia.
good old ponders end. i especially like the way all the tower blocks are painted different colours. really 'lifts' the 'spirit' of the area, eh?
I can see someone on Location Location Location getting a 'must have pension top up crash pad' there can't you?
it is an up-and-coming area with properties in need of TLC and good transport links into The City. who wouldn't want to live there?!?
"Elephant & Castle has long been a place where many roads meet – but in recent times it has acted as a focus for the meeting of imagination, innovation and vision"
places can de-gentrify
The place is full of slappers
is 'gentrification' a desirable goal?
