3 is shite!
saw 3 took about $32million in it's first weekend in the US.
It was a script someone had written pre-Saw that was very similar and in order to milk the success of the first one, they bought the script and changed the title and villan
are more sequels to saw 2 than to the original, non?
in a pub. It was rubbish, and I haven't bothered with any of the other ones.
Go and see Black Sheep instead. It looks brilliant
and the twist isn't even that exciting - "ooh, the man's not dead." I am not looking forward to getting S4 at work.
Just read about it on Wikipedia, it sounds foul.
for starting this whole torture porn genre we have going on at the moment. I mean I'm not a great fan of the horror genre, but true horror is created by suspense, playing on our archtypal fears and by teasing and tormenting us before delivering the gruesome coup de grace.
All these films of graphic portrayls of people just getting killed in every more stupidly violent views - who is actually enjoying these films? I mean Saw at least had a storyline, Captivity, Paradise Lost etc are just people getting mangled. Who actually finds that entertaining?
they are crap.
and i liked Hostel too. I like lots of horror films, i enjoy them, i like being grossed out - their only movies. Get over it.
I just get the enjoyment from watching people just being tortured. The two films you listed are different - the torture fits in as part of a story, but their sequels and films they've inspired are basically just acted out snuff films.
No real plot, no suspense, just people being emotionally and physically tortured. And people are lapping it up. I don't understand is all.
I reluctantly agreed to watch some of Hostel 2 with my flatmates. As well as being an awful film, it was pretty disgusting.
I don't think these torture porn films will go down as one of cinemas brightest points.
Quite funny in places. Did you see Hostel 2?
is the original version of Captivity ( by Joffé ).
They were re-shooted and added by Courtney Solomon in the hope of cashing on the success of Hostel/Saw.
But yeah, that "torture porn" sub-genre is shit. At least Saw was a bit suprising.
But there's a section in this month Empire about all the killings.
Seems like there pretty angry films =\
theyre a bit of an effort to get through, but i like twists. geddover it
because of all the lurid tales about how horrible it was, I was very disappointed at how cheap and shit it was when I eventually saw it.
Whereas I saw Wolf Creek at the cinema and it scared the living crap out of me.
Hostel is utter shit but it is not remotely nasty because it is so laughable and badly done. Hostel 2 is actually an improvement because the script is actually more witty.
Saw is cheaply made but I thought quite watchable, the sequels are worth watching once. 2 is pretty rubbish, 3 is alright.
It is all disposable nonsense and far from unsettling or scary but enjoyable for all that.
I saw the Halloween remake yesterday. Dull. I'm struggling to think of a really good recent horror film and I watch a lot of them. Final Destination is superb but only in a comedy-horror sense. Hmmm
Hostel was piss. First half was better as at least it was a shit college road trip film, then went into the usual, only for 11 year old horror shit.
Horror, like metal is 99% aimed at guffy little boys and you have to trawl for that 1% of good, non boy-wank quality.
- that they're 99% shite. So many movies are made that most will fall between average and bad - mostly the latter.
I do find your comments about horror being a 'little boy' genre patronising though. I know a lot of ladies that dig the medium, especially my girlfriend and my Nan.
I am saying that the majority of horror films are targetted not at the over 18 market that they are meant to, but at the mid-teen market.
I love horror am just frustrated by it permanently.
but it is probably my favourite genre of film, so I think I can get more enjoyment out of the poor, trashy examples than should really be possible. Hostel however had no redeeming features.
I've seen two of them, and there's just nothing to it. Somebody mentioned up there ^ about the popularity of this torture porn stuff, and I totally agree
They're not scary or even particularly uncomfortable viewing. There seems to be no characterization to speak of or get on board with, and the plot is essentially the same in each film. Two of the most boring films I've ever seen
is absolute shit and it pisses me off, theyre so bad. Theres no sense of tension in them. they are basically constructed around the killings and the story is kinda tagged on to join it together.
