after this weekend!
I have never been so proud to be English in my life.
I was at a wedding so I've only seen the highlights, but I did get to enjoy the France/NZ match later in the evening, also AWESOME!
I was sat checking the scores on my mobile sitting through 2nd division football. France NZ match was awesome.
I missed both matches yesterday due to playing and then collapsing on the sofa. Woulda loved Scotland to go through too.
about Scotland. Can't wait for the semis, it's gonna be a real tough one. France want it bad.
cannae wait though. Excitement she wrote!
(and no, it's not)
the resident of Hackney :)
the last person i met from hackney clearly had a decent trust fund as despite teaching bad kids she was able to do bikram yoga, go abroad all the time and shop at harvey nicholls.
it's the posh bit unsurprisingly
It's really nice but you can claim you live in Hackney when it suits you, so best of both worlds.
Stoke Newington didn't strike me as having much in the way of 'posh', like...
relentlessly middle class places in the world and has a massive amount of very expensive houses. Hardly Hampstead but very far from a shithole.
I suppose it depends on what you are used to.
has lots of middle-class bits. It's quite specific to London. The street I used to live on was roughly 20 identical houses and in one there was me and my 2 housemates who were renting and subsisting on rubbish money. A bloke 8 doors down is an associate at a city law firm and earns 150kish.
It doesn't really happen anywhere else.
but maintain that Stoke Newington is pretty posh unless you are an overprivileged twerp. I like the word twerp.
as posh as the London I've lived in - but then I've never lived in the East
and after the game I was waiting at a bar and a massive hairy guy wearing a NZ flag as a cape came up beside me.
I just said 'that was a bit crap wasn't it?' and he burst into tears.
did you give him a hug?
his black face paint was running - my first priority is limiting my dry cleaning expenses first, comforting a countryman second
so no, I don't expect so
To be honest I actually milked it a little - I started mumbling things like 'poor Graham Henry...4 years work down the drain' and he'd shake his head and choke back the tears.
I let him do the crying for both of us. And my clothes remained wash-basin fresh
I was just doing what was best for him
It's a rare day an English victory gets a bunch of cheers from Scotsmen.
Also, I didn't care.
good games tho.
the look on dan carters face when he went off told the story i think. he looked lost - genuinely shocked about what was happening.
I had too much tequila celebrating after the England game.
but you were moving her shoulder so her breat would also move.
it sounds like an eventful evening...
but I watched the 2nd half. Our forwards anihilated the Aussie pack. It was really humbling to see those arrogant antipodeans having a group hug whilst weeping onto the pitch. NOT!!!!
Big big game against the French now. Who'd have bet on them beating the Kiwis? I think the South Africans are probably favourites now.
that it was a clear path to victory for SA now, but after France/NZ I'd say anything goes, you just never know.
i hope argentina batter them!
so now they'll have to really fuck it up to lose it. If England make the final it would actually be possible for SA to win the thing without having met anyone, other than Argentina, ranked in the top 6 countries in the world.
It's been a pretty dodgy draw - there was one side of the tournament that was clearly far easier than the others - Ireland being the most obvious victims of it
they had it in the bag too, still you're so right about SA.
When you support NZ at a World Cup, you never think anything's in the bag. The last time we won it I was too young to even remember it.
Apparently we haven't lost to France since 2000, and the average score in the games since then has been 47-11. Which just shows they're massive, massive chokers who can't handle the pressure.
but would you not say that it means the other teams are catching up?
it's been great to see some of the lesser teams catch up. It'll be interesting to see if at the next one they've advanced more - I hope so, because some of the games at this one have been amazing
but even I was getting into it this weekend.
the England game was the tensest sporting occasion i've witnessed since the real (football) world cup
with the rugby semis AND isn't it also a Euro qualifier (I have no idea, I don't follow football)?
the England soccerball team are playing too. It should be a good weekend of unrealistic expectation followed by crushing disappointment, it's what we do best.
we're gonna spank those Frenchies and humiliate the Estonians/Russians/whoever!!!!!
EXCEPT - - - - Fiji should have won. and i didn't like the Saffas behaviour towards the end of the match when they were getting frustrated and started scrapping.
And i wish that Scotland had won also. not that they may have had any chance going further, but it would have been nice :)
Oh we've been outclassed by a team that plays flowing running rugby, let's start throwing punches.
Scotland reaped what they sowed. Arg were there for the taking. Shame Scotland didn't realise this till 20 mins from time
I played rugby at 12, we won easily, I've never enjoyed playing rugby as much as that day. Then watched the England game, and even I was going mental at the end (mainly cos I had a fiver on England), then went to some Kiwi pub to watch the France game chanting "ALLEZ LES BELUS!" having been drinking jugs of gin and tonic. I left at half time thinking it was over but got to another pub in time to witness a great upset. ALLEZ LES BLEUS! The all blacks choke again! Was so refreshing to see a ref prepared to ping ABs for their rampant cheating, and for them to lose to a forward pass as well - payback for all those times they've cheated to victory!
everyone hates NZ. Why does no-one say it until they lose?
NOT WHEN IT MATTERS EH THOUGH!
I can't hear your excuses through all the CHOKING
People in glass houses....
I never actually expect to win. The only time we've really choked is against France in the last 6N.
For NZ however, it's 5 World Cups and counting
I think they're a great team, but I'd rather face France in the semis, plus I think it's nice when the host nation do well.
English footy team = shite.
Club rugby teams = shite.
Club footy teams = great.
Combine the two.
That's it really.
I expect them to beat France and then get humiliated by SA.
Pity for Scotland but they made too many stupid mistakes.
What part of anyone's brain thought that was a good idea?
That's Scotland's problem at the mo, very well organised defensively, but they have little going forward. A lot of the time it's hard to see points coming from anywhere other than Patterson's boot
but yes you're right, they rarely looked like breaking through. The Lamonts made some decent runs but then also made some atrocious mistakes.
but on the wing he gets little ball.
I'd try playing him at 13, make a change from Scotland's tactics of just playing massive lumps in the 3/4s
Gutted I missed the game and the France/NZ one too. :(
as I was in York. Beating Australia at anything is funny. Though Rugby is still a game played by champagne-filled solicitors who failed their Eton exams
and I fit none of those criteria
In fact in NZ, it's a complete 180 from what it's like here - rugby is the working class game and soccer is considered the sport of pampered middle class pansies
