anyway: personal statements: beginning or end of cv?
never had to send out a cv to a potential employer, I'd say you should put it at the end.

personal info, hobbies, interests, DOB etc at the end
Personal Statement was at the end of the cv :D
Short, sweet and full of acceptable clichés, please. Not too political, nothing too clever.
knowing how to work the world?
if you have enough experience then i'd just leave it out. if you don't then i'd put it at the beginning. keep it to one paragraph.
I have three sentences about me right at the top under my name. Then a short personal statement at the end, which I adapt slightly to the job I'm applying for.
