07/11/84, Celtic v Rapid Vienna, 1-3 first leg. Ten minutes to go, Celtic 3-0 up and on way to 1/4 final. Someone throws a whisky bottle from crowd onto park. It bounces harmlessly along the grass. One of the Rapid Vienna players, Hans Krankl, throws himself to the ground clutching his head. They rush him to the dressing room then parade him
to the press with the biggest and stupidest bandage in the world ever
applied to his untouched treacherous head. They claim he has a fractured skull. TV footage proves it came nowhere near him. Celtic are forced to replay the game at Old Trafford and lose 1-0. Everton beat Rapid Vienna in the final
Dida claimed to have been hit by a firework when playing Inter 2 years ago, Inter out, AC won final
In light of all this I hope someone playfully slaps the 'fan' silly, asshole
either side of the Old Firm who are total bigots and an embarrassment. The Rangers fans is worse and that's not due to me being a Celtic fan, he's heavily involved in the loyalist stuff and consumed with bitterness, the Celtic fan is a bigot but can at least be amusing, there's no funny side to the Rangers fan. Thankfully I have friends who are fans on both sides who just let all that nonsense sail over and by them. I'm sure all clubs are the same
I was at a game about six months ago and was sitting close to a group singing rebel songs. There were about 25 of them and they were drawing scornful glances from the rest of the crowd
the 'fan' who carried out this brutal assault was pointed out to police by other fans. I saw a Rangers fan on another music board saying it was a racist assault :)
purely because that fan should have been nowhere near the pitch. Ideally he would get charged with bringing the game into disrepute but then for consistencies sake you'd have to punish every bit of play acting that's occured in the Champions League this week. I'd like to see it but FIFA and UEFA always stop short of acting despite their words.
and the fan clearly shouldn't be on the pitch and should be banned. But Dida's tried to make the situation much worse and that was pretty reckless given the possibile repercussions there could have been.
¬ Dida. Embarrassing. What the hell was he thinking? The man is an utter joke, and can suitably live the rest of his life with no dignity, it's what he deserves. Reminded me of Rivaldo in the world cup clutching his face.
what happens ?
bbc says
he was stretchered off for a slap
cheeky chappy runs on the pitch
cheekily slaps Dida on the cheek and runs away
Dida runs angrily after him for a few feet before dropping to the ground theatrically
Dida taken off the pitch on a stretcher
Dida is obviously a dick.
But Celtic will get slaughtered for that.
The fan could have had a knife, they will claim
and it will probably start calls for a return to the days of caged in fans.
this sounds amazing.
link? i know nothing about football so this could've been literally 10 seconds ago.
it was about 90 minutes ago.
youtube ETA = maybe friday morning?
actually, this is so good it might be sorted by tomorrow afternoon.
i'm just home from the game
Dida is such a cunt.
But i fear heaby sanctions from Uefa.
:(
sigh

tbf
when inter played ac, wern't ac already 3-0 up when the incident happened?
It wasn't even a slap
more a saucy little pinch of his cheeks. And Dida's reaction was so hammy. Daft fan, mind. Let's hope he hasn't cost Celtic the points.
As much as I hate Celtic, and think their fans are utter scum
That individual fan should be punished heavily, but not the other fans or the team.
I'd even deign to add
that Celtic deserved their result, and we could even see the first ever last 16 with both the old firm this year.
"As much as I hate Celtic, and think their fans are utter scum"
why don't you amuse us all with some laughable generalisation why we're all utter scum and you hate us ;)
Generalization?
I deal in specifics.
The only two Celtic fans I've ever known reasonably well have been complete thugs who have done jail time due to football violence.
I also choose to hate celtic because of their anti-English posturing. Being English, it is hate bait.
Plus, the more clubs you hate, the more fun you have in football discussions.
I've got two friends
either side of the Old Firm who are total bigots and an embarrassment. The Rangers fans is worse and that's not due to me being a Celtic fan, he's heavily involved in the loyalist stuff and consumed with bitterness, the Celtic fan is a bigot but can at least be amusing, there's no funny side to the Rangers fan. quicker than i thought.
i think we're the only ones posting at the moment.
lots of lurkers at this time of night, eh?
indeed
the 'fan' who carried out this brutal assault was pointed out to police by other fans. I saw a Rangers fan on another music board saying it was a racist assault :)
hmm
it looks like he slit his throat or something. slightly hilarious, though.
Based on that footage
I honestly think Dida should be charged with bringing the game into disrepute or potential crowd incitement or something.
He's made the incident so much worse with his stupid reaction and UEFA should clamp down on that.
Not going to happen though is it
purely because that fan should have been nowhere near the pitch. Ideally he would get charged with bringing the game into disrepute but then for consistencies sake you'd have to punish every bit of play acting that's occured in the Champions League this week. well they've started to...
or at least started with quite a high profile one with Mikoliunas' two match ban for the dive against Scotland that won them a penalty
Of course it;s not gonna happen
and the fan clearly shouldn't be on the pitch and should be banned. But Dida's tried to make the situation much worse and that was pretty reckless given the possibile repercussions there could have been.
haha
what a dick.
applicable to both parties.
What I said in the other thread:
¬ Dida. Embarrassing. What the hell was he thinking? The man is an utter joke, and can suitably live the rest of his life with no dignity, it's what he deserves. Reminded me of Rivaldo in the world cup clutching his face.
