Uni’s started last week and today I am about to choose my options.
The course I am on has two pathways: the one that leads to a rather romantic career as a rare books librarian/ manuscripts curator, and the other that leads to a career earning mega bucks as an ‘information architect’, ‘knowledge manager’ or some shit.
Before I started I was dead set on choosing the former and enjoying classes at the V&A, and I am already a Rare Books Librarian.
But attending the options fair changed this.
The lecturers for the rare books courses were utter cunts. I could tell straight away they were smug gits and were not interested in telling me about the course. They just sat their in their dusty jackets and owl glasses wishing I left them alone.
I had to actually leave the desk and eavesdrop on his explanation of the course to another girl in order to find out about the course.
The flash blokes in the Information science side were really cool and really enthusiastic and sold the whole thing to me.
And I need this degree anyway, to keep my job, and I really believe that the course conveners of the dusty variety really don’t want my kind soiling their precious collection and won’t be very fair when it comes to marking my work.
So I’ve switched to the dark side and changed the direction of my career ‘cos of a couple of cunts.
A cop out or a sensible decision?
