It was amazing. what was it called? at what was everyone's favourite bit?
is what it's called I think?
I started watching it but my housemates came in and wanted to watch "Dirty, Pretty Things" - which was actually a pretty good film.
but I only watched about 45 mins. Don't think I would've wanted to watch the whole film.
It was called "riding Giants".
The footage where Mark Foo died and then the story about him grabbing that guys leg was horrible.
i didn't even see that bit. I saw about half an hour of it.
the extent to which they put their lives on the line is incredible.
It was sweet when one of the wives described the comedown/how the husband felt when the weather wasn't kicking up any good waves 'look, it's like being a dragon slayer, and suddenly there aren't any more dragons to slay'. Made me smile.
Probably the most incredible part was the big heavy wave near the end that he instinctively knew how to ride even though it was a completely different creature to any he'd ever encountered before. That's got to be a natural talent.
Adrenalin highs are so addictive, I can understand how they get hooked on the sport.
it was knarley.
It made me a bit sad that all of the people i know who call themselves surfers are just people who smoke a lot of weed, wear Fat Willys sweaters, listen to Jack Johnson and live in Bournemouth. i tried talking to one of them about Dick Dale once. Only got a blank face back.
they all like Jack Johnson.
I haven't done it in a few years though. And yes, all surfers like shit music.
quite. Even a bit of Jan & Dean wouldn't go amiss.
there was a surfer on my course at college, and he went all the way to Barcelona just to see Jack Johnson!
what happened to thrilling twelve bar blues surf geetar with massive reverb and astounding fretwork? Jack Johnson is so tepid and irritatingly dull he makes me want to have a dishwater enema just to distract myself from him.
it was ace, It was by the same guy who did Dogtown and Z Boys wasn't it? I liked that a lot too even though i can't skate or surf. That huge wave that that guy rode towards the end was amazing, GNARLY.
it was great, almost as good as Z Boys.
Actually made me reconsider my views that all surfers are suspiciously macho, inane, posing public school boys.
But not for long.
