The whole thing's downloadable from somewhere, but as great as they always were, and still are, really Mark & Lard's imperial phase was 1994-1997 on the graveyard shift.
as it was in the mid 90s. It saved me from suicide on the nights I was eitherrevising or too skint to go out. Their afternoon show was a poor approximation.
playing 'inappropriate to the target audience' songs on the afternoon slot and timed how long it was 'til the management noticed?
And when they dealt with having to play Will Young's "Leave Right Now" by talking ironically about how brilliant it was over the length of the entire song!
i've still got 'Our Kid Eh' and 'The Worst Album In The World...Ever...EVER!' somewhere. i had You're A Bastard stuck in my head at work today funnily enough, quietly chuckling to myself.
yes
the eight months they did the breakfast show was basically the best period of my life. I loved setting my alarm for the poetry at 7.25.
And the 2 til 4 show was a treat
I fucking loved it.
The sketches and stuff
were brilliant, the fact that they were so crap, made them so funny.
the one where lard played
his 'mint' condition vinyls was utterly fantastic
I was just about
to mention them. Not sure how they got away with it.
Beat the clock was good too.
i can remember
crying so hard with laughter when they played...'Mull of fu'kintyre'
:DDDDDDDDDDD
Fat Harry White, London Isn't Burning, the Irish habitual phone quiz contestant......
all awesome!
.....and then they gave us that cunt Moyles instead.
Fact.
I cried when they were taken off.
The original evening show
from the palace of glittering delights?
Yes. Where else could you hear the entirity of 'marquee moon' followed by 2 minutes of dead air? Supasweet.
Their last show was genuinely upsetting
Real end of an era. I was on my own in the office and had the radio on all afternoon.
Didn't they have Travis in doing a version of Somewhere Only We Know with lyrics altered in tribute to Marc and Lard?
Indeed
The whole thing's downloadable from somewhere, but as great as they always were, and still are, really Mark & Lard's imperial phase was 1994-1997 on the graveyard shift.
Hit The North
When Radio Five/Five Live used to play music and they would be on late at night. That was ace!
well
M&L were ace, but Baker & Kelly rule the radio roost.
Their 10 to 12 weeknight show was MUCH MUCH BETTER
am I allowed to say that?
Yes
Because it is true
oh I thought it wouldnt be 'allowed'
as it was in the mid 90s. It saved me from suicide on the nights I was eitherrevising or too skint to go out. Their afternoon show was a poor approximation.
Late night was genius!
Chutney of the Week
Bez Sez
What Steve Had For Tea
Afternoon radio and its restricted playlist ruined it all.
starting a show with 'Transmission' and then the full version of Little Johhny Jewel
followed by inane ranting was always afantastic experience.
f***
my hat, i didn't know that....what was that jingle thing they had..."is it a fish is it a fowl is it a guppy no it's an owl?" something like that
My Dad and I are still obsessed with these 2
I use to record it on my tape player so I could listen back when I got home from school. I loved the school holidays, I could listen to it live!
Dobbin or Bobbin
Frogging
Lard's animal hospital
'its Mark from Glasgow'
'Mark?! With the chip van?! How's his baby daughter?'
etc
Do you remember when they started
playing 'inappropriate to the target audience' songs on the afternoon slot and timed how long it was 'til the management noticed?
And when they dealt with having to play Will Young's "Leave Right Now" by talking ironically about how brilliant it was over the length of the entire song!
"ironically"?
sarcastically?
Yeah, sarcastically I guess.
my fave was downcount
in the afternoon, how they got away with spelling out some of those words on tv in the afternoon
I'm so glad I'm not one of those petty people
who'd point out it was actually on the radio, not the TV.
hahaha u know what i mean
i meant radio!! i wish i could watch tv at work i really do! hehe
...
Do you remember that cd they did, that was pretty funny
oh yes
i've still got 'Our Kid Eh' and 'The Worst Album In The World...Ever...EVER!' somewhere. i had You're A Bastard stuck in my head at work today funnily enough, quietly chuckling to myself.
The evening show
Was so good. I still have some of it on tape (ILLEGAL!)
"Is it a bird?"
"Is it a bloke?"
"Haven't a clue mate"
"Sorry I spoke"
"Is it a bloke?"
"Is it a bird?"
"No idea, pal"
"How absurd"
Alright, I suppose.
oooh
ten pence short
