who should start tonight? ....... and who would win in a fight?
Even though he can't trap a moving football, his sheer physical presence and link up play is far more effective than crouch.
Emile. Owen's scored in 12 of the last 13 games they've played together.
Plus Heskey's a goddam legend and Crouch believes his own hype.
record for England is incredible though
aren't exactly Mexico
One goal conceded in all qualification games, a manager who knows what he's doing etc etc.
Granted, Heskey isn't going to score either. We appear to have two target men who specialise in simply being targets and not actually doing anything else. But anyway. Yeah. I've lost track of what I was saying. What's going on again?
but Hiddink has said that he would rather Crouch played as he thinks Russia's defenders could deal with his threat fine. He's more worried by the prospect of a great big battering ram of a lummox up against them.
heskey, obvs. Has crouch played or scored a goal this season?
i.e. not domestically
double bluff. McClaren will play Crouch. He's cleverer than we think. He played Heskey against Israel and programmed him to have a good game, to make Russia think he'd play him against them, thus meaning they did not make preparations for dealing with Crouch.
And Hiddink thinks he is so clever!
he is a spineless puppet.
when we crash out of euro 2008 in the group stages.
finals against Portugal on penalties.
if Hargreaves, Lampard and say Rooney had been fit for tonight then there'd be no discussion. No matter how well Wright-Phillips, Barry and Heskey did on Saturday, they'd have been immediately replaced.
i reckon Mclaren *might* have dropped Lampard or Gerrard, or more likely i suppose Hargreaves and gone back to Lamps and Gerrard fucking about in the middle again
then - he'd be a shoo in. He'll never get his knighthood without 100 caps.
and McLaren gives it to him. Fair enough he did well in the Brazil game and the Macedonia game, but seriosuly, he shouldn't be in the side now. He is a quick fix at best.
because his record for England has been excellent.
But I would feel sorry for Heskey as he did well against Israel. He has a good partnership with Owen, but then so does Crouch.
In a fight? It's no contest is it. It's basically Frank Bruno vs Timmy from South Park innit.
basically said we should play like we played against Holland in '96. play heskey like sheringham on the left centre back and push wright phillips on the right centre back so they have to revert to a 4-4-2 or get slaughterd
he's like jimmy bullard. No great skill, no amazing technical ability. But he just keeps going. Until he gets a corner.
And also a better name.
Emile William Ivanhoe Heskey > Peter James Crouch
and he's got a great touch for a big lad.
...for a big lad
from his leicester roots innit
I approve of that. Leicester can do one on the whole, but I admire Emile and his dad's passion for the place.
he would possibly be the greates championship player ever... got all the attributes, fast, big, strong, awkward but would some how bag twenty a season
Crouchy, Prosinecki and Merson.
in Leicester at the Uni one night and took a piss standing next to Emile. I accidently nudged him when I turned away from the urinal and he fell over.
i went to bubblelove once and there was a man in a wheelchair masterbating in the corner..... is yours actually ture?
where I said he fell over, yeah it is. Is yours?
his face still haunts me today
it works for anything in life. Examples:
having no great skill. I think he is technically pretty amazing, but has never managed to consistently play well.
So yeah, Hesky should start.
we really aren't as good as we think we are.
so long as the players didn't peddle the myth before every game that there's this golden generation and that every squad named is the 'strongest yet'.
actually quite a pessimistic attitude towards this current England squad
they are the most dislikable bunch of footballers ever assembled.
Bar Gareth Barry.
Micah, Wright-Phillips, Owen, Heskey
I actually quite like this England side without bloody Lampard
BUT, we still have:
Gerrard (or Stevie G. The G stands for 'goes missing in big games)
is actually good though - as much as I hate him. Ashley Cole hasn't had it for about four years. Joe Cole can't even get in the Chelsea side. Gerrard is likable enough to get away with it.
Still the midfield should be Bentley, Carrick, Parker, Barry
I just don't like them as people. Gerrard is far from likeable.
I would rather watch Wales than watch an England team with Bentley in it.
I like Gerrard now it transpires he is friends with Gareth Barry
you can't have Barry wide left. His best position is in the middle. Look at how he dominated Chelsea's midfield the other day.
having Sherwood or Wise on the left. It's got to be Ashley Young or Matty Taylor with Parker on the bench.
Darren Huckerby >>>>>> Ashley Young
in the 20 minutes he played of the Cardiff game was really something. He's still top drawer.
but I just like him for him saying that he'd sign a new contract for Norwich last season no matter how much or little they offered him. That is quality in my eyes.
If we saw him in the street you would hate him.
LOOK AT HIS HAIR.
on Football Focus. What a chav! I can't hate any ex-Norwich players
he would be at a better team, or still at us.
Bentley will never play for a big team.
Joe Cole, he does at least usually perform in England matches. I just wish he wasn't quite such a diver.
he'd be a cunt if you met him.
with my wallett or my sister - but he doesn't have the smug look of the rest of the Chelsea boys.
I disagree. And his voice! Oh his voice grates on my soul.
you didn't take the bait - fair play. I think Bentley's a decent player but a pretty huge knob.
I don't think the England side are the best in the world but there has been a pretty strong squad for the past 4-5 years that just should have produced a little bit more. Completely agree about them being unlikeable - well, Rio, A.Cole, Terry, Lampard mainly.
the gammy lipped cunt.
NEVER TRUST A BALL PLAYING CENTRE BACK
Don't speak ill of the dead
whereas ferdinand likes to think he is a little beckenbaur.
he plays with a swagger that is betrayed by his total inability and dimwittedness
There's so many dislikable characters in the squad. Rio, Terry, Cashley, Fat Frank, Gerrard, Beckman etc. I'm so pleased that Barry had such a good game on Saturday. It's an absolute scandal that someone like Kieron Dyer or Jermaine Jenas has more caps than he does.
can just fuck right off. Lamentable people
he seems like a nice enough guy to me, and he never complains when he is dropped or moans to the press about stuff.
Sure the whole thing with Posh and everything is a bit nauseating, but thats more her fault than his!
so much as the aura and hype around him. And the insistence that his return to the England side is a good one. It's not. He can still whip in a free kick, but apart from that?
england has, we have to end up playing an clumsy big git up front
I think he'll have a good game if he gets a chance tonight. Heskey was really unassuming against Israel, not exactly what you want in a target man.
Owen also needs to learn how to score easy goals again.
Maybe not in 'being a fat shit' terms.
has Joe Cole ever attempted to take a full-back on the outside?
no he hasn't, because he has NO pace.
still been our most effective creative midfielder in the last 2 years.
good goal against Sweden!
and it's pretty clear that any team with
a) a vaguely competent coach
b) a vaguely competent right back
will have him sussed in no time.
I also look forward to another example of Rio's elegant, ball-playing virtuosity.
more effective than his more lauded colleagues in the middle of the park over the last 2 years. Plus, it's hardly his fault that he gets stuck on the left wing because all our left footed wingers are no better than Championship standard. It's quite clear his best position would be behind the front man / two.
that if he were that good, he'd have a modicum of confidence in his left foot. The way he cuts inside EVERY time he gets the ball is just so fucking predictable it borders on the embarassing and it's incredibly easy to defend against. Granted he set up the opening goal on Saturday but that was due to the spectacular ineptitude of the Israelis rather than any revelatory piece of skill on his part.
any current England player that shows much confidence in their weaker foot then I'll happily lose this argument.
but that's more a damning indictment of our national team than an excuse for Cole.
but then I can't think of many players in the world who are equally strong off either foot. Wesley Sneijder is one, Wayne O'Sullivan another...
There's a difference between having a stronger foot and displaying a complete inability to use your weaker foot.
I guess this is a sad indictment of English coaching methods then.
The continual coaching buzzwords of 'strength', 'passion', 'tempo' et al are sorely deficient in producing technically competent players. I remember when I played for my school team, our most technically gifted player (who, incidentally, was Spanish) was consistently left out in favour of players who would adhere to the coach's 'hit the channels' approach. It's the same at my uni, where the entry into the first team seems to be based around brute physical strength.
LEE LEE LEE TRUNDLE!
but somehow he seems to enjoy playing on the left. It's his position for england now. Even though it still messes up the shape of the team sometimes.
*brings back Heskey, brings back Beckham, thinks about bringing back David Cocking James, keeps Lampard in the team etc etc*
Hibbert, Lescott, Terry and Neville P.
It's the way to go.
random racist thug off the street isn't denying his latent homosexuality
Terry is a woofter, just an utter cunt.
from the BBC's Micah Richards column (whatever happened to Kevin Nolan?):
"I had told people that if I scored for England I would do that, so I had to stick to my word.
Rio Ferdinand came running over to join me while I was celebrating and he just said: "Brush your shoulders off."
It is a bit of a young man's saying and I don't know whether many people will be familiar with it - but in other words it just means well done."
It seems Rio is gradually turning into Westwood.
working for Head and Shoulders in the bag.
