cos they're cutting 'edge
I'll BE HERE ALL WEEK
AND THE REST OF MY LIFE
better than any answer i could have expected
They are the most banal, because, whereas creative gardeners make something new out of the mix of imagination and nature, topiarists merely mimic what already exists.
it has no connection with its material, that is, the hedge.
you have lost me.
And alcxxk, what is 'non representational' topiary? Pics plz. Ta.
(do you mean swirly patterns in the form of hedges...)
ie birds doing figure-8's on roller skates, or your family pet immortalised in the garden wearing a scarf...
We are getting topairy in our back garden in the winter after our excavation and work is finished... I'm rather excited.. mini hedges EVERYWHERE... I <3 hedges... I pat them when I walk past them.. (true geeky fact)....
so does topiary HAVE to be representational??
not just spirals n ting?
"(of a plant) clipped or trimmed into fantastic shapes."
A gardener, who cares for aesthetics alongside the usefulness of a garden, will combine his artistic ability and his creativity with the restraints and the possibilities of manipulating the natural characteristics of his basic materials, that is, the foliage.
On the other hand, a topiarist cuts a static hedge into shapes.
the plant into making 'different' overall shapes as well
abstract nonrepresentational topiary.
Mrs knees disagrees with this.
