omg.. if London Underground ruins my jam packed week of gigs and meetings... grrr....
shoreditch high street to brixton
I also have an interview in Canary Wharf Tues.
Buses are soooo crammed on tube strike days. Bleh...
from Tower Hill. that's easy to get to from East and the DLR is fun and relaxing, it always makes me feel like I'm in the Jetsons or something.
from Liverpool St
brixton is only in zone 2.
allow some extra time, I'm gonna get the 59 from Euston which will probably take forever.
As I'm going straight from work.
Bugger knows where though, Brixton pubs = scary.
God. I'll talk to Fran and suss out what to do.
I can get overland back I guess.
DAMN IT.. Praying for cancellation of strike.
I now live in Zone 6, how the hell am I meant to get to work?!
won't they have glorious tube replacement buses for farmers like you?
due to the Victoria Line early closing thing as well. This has just made it a double whammy of bus or overland train fun for you.
We are not looking forward to getting back from the Beasties tomorrow.
Like me. Only ten minutes from Brixton on a bus of joy.
I would write something more witty and interesting but really. Brixton. It's just not worth the effort of lampooning your suggestion.
and then London Bridge to Brixton by another bus.
But all is kind of okay.
TWO buses? whatever will you do.
you big fey nonny.
but I liked the 'insert your own recipient' here nature of it.
i mean, christ, you basically live in dalston right? how can you be so hung up on using the tube?
TWO WHOLE BUSES!!!11
I also have to meet people in Brixton.
That is A LOT of bus catching in a short period of time - buses that will be crammed and sweaty and probabluy not show up or be full of people.
You try doing this in heels and carrying a portfolio of your work, whilst trying to remain calm and not flustered for important interviews.
Also, I tend to walk everywhere as prefer it.
So chill the hell out and stop making out that I am so 'precious' when I am not.
and full bus means not being able to hop on board... which means stressful arrival time to my interview.
have to do this every day.
It's my trade off and my decision.
is hardly out in the middle of nowhere. neither is canary wharf.
you're making a big deal out of very little imho.
also, i don't know if this covers the DLR, so maybe there's an alternative way to to canary wharf? just a thought.
Buses are slow and annoying and when they're crowded, especially if they're bendy buses, they are a hell to which nothing, not even a sweaty packed tube carriage, comes close.
it can often take as little as 30 minutes to travel from vauxhall to camden town, although it usually takes 45-60. i always get a seat, on both buses.
i can't imagine the tube would be any quicker, and i know i wouldn't get a seat. it would also cost twice as much.
i only use one in the evening as i walk from camden town to trafalgar square, and this is admittedly because it takes ages. but that's because the bus turns from gower street onto new oxford street, and that junction is one of the worst designed road systems i've ever come across. it usually takes 45 minutes to get from camden town to trafalgar square, and usually 30 minutes of that involves sitting at the bottom of gower street. so i walk instead.
again, i can't imagine the tube would get me home much faster, and i again certainly wouldn't get a seat.
and i certainly never have any problems getting buses around in the evening / weekend.
buses work very well for some people indeed, just in the same way the tube does, but for half the price. i certainly wouldn't consider living somewhere that had poor bus access and would force me to rely on the tube, as i just don't think it has any real advantages.
although i should probably mention that where i'm moving to will again be within walking distance of work ;o)
And generally I don't like 'em. I use them a lot more because of where I live.
The ones that have heating on ALL THE TIME can FUCK OFF! >:(
"...worst designed road systems.." - so true. i was stuck in a bus there for more than half an hour once (don't usually travel around there so didn't know better to get off earlier). and as the buses are near-stationary on the right hand side of the road, the driver can't even let people off.
i said hung up. you are hung up.
i was just wondering how you were so dependent on a service that doesnt actually go that near your house
you can get the northern live down to stockwell, and then a short bus or walk to brixton if much time on a bus is too much
not on the day of a tube strike you can't.
Transport for London - Statement on proposed Metronet strike action
03 September 2007
A Transport for London spokesperson said:
"Both the Mayor and the direct employers, the Administrator and Metronet, have given the trades unions clear written assurances that meet all of their concerns, namely that there will be no job cuts or transfers as a result of the collapse of Metronet and no loss of pensions now or at any time in the future.
"London Underground, Metronet, the Administrator and ACAS all yesterday asked Bob Crow what further assurances the RMT is seeking. There has been no response.
"We are still prepared to meet any reasonable requests to meet first thing or throughout today, as it is clearly unreasonable to proceed with a strike when all of the trades unions’ concerns have been met, and without the RMT informing us what they seek to achieve."
it's not a long walk from stockwell tube
plus plenty of buses to elephant, shoreditch, kings, marble arch etc
This is the longest, most pointless thread I've started in a while.
the northern line you say.
well, that makes it a piece of piss then.
yesterday with the victoria line woes, i got the northern line to kennington and then got the 133 bus to brixtonia. the 333 also goes from right outside kennington tube too. i would've gone from oval, but my tube decided to terminate at kennington.
BOOOO YOU WONT BE ABLE TO GET ANYWHEREEEEE
Buses = >>>>>> Tube
despite fact all bus drivers are complete cocks.
Sometimes, I know I have no money on my osyter card so I go to put it against the yellow thingy and it goes red. I think loo at them as if I'm about to cry and say 'I've only got a tenner, would that possibly do?' Then they mostly let me on for free or ake me sit at the front just incase anyone comes on with change. Which is unlikely. I love being a woman.
bus drivers are into golden showers?
the 45, 59, 109, 118, 159, and 250 bus all stop outside the station/kfc. and probably some more.
PHEW. But also, slightly, cock.
at Connect the Beastie Boys made us sign over our photographic copyrights to them to use forever with no payment to us. If they fail to credit us it's just one of those things and nobodies fault apparently. They were also very stingy about who got to photograph them and excluded people with valid photopasses, ie the DiS photographer would probably have got a knockback because it's online rather than print, they weren't accepting any online publications. Free Tibet, screw the photographers, eh
