Trying to help out a friend here:
'On 4th July I took delivery of a brand new Habitat Ronda 3-seat sofa bed, in charcoal grey, which cost me £974.
It is a thing of beauty, and the bed bit is just as comfy as the sofa part.
190 cm wide, 82 high, 94 deep.
On 31st July I moved to my new abode, and the %@(*”!# thing wouldn’t go through the door. And it won’t go in via the 2nd floor windows either.
Absurd, but nothing I can do. Sell it on Mr Bay, you might think. But how can I show it to prospective purchasers? The main body of the thing is sitting in Pickfords’ depot in Hayes. The cushions are at my place in West Hampstead, as I need them to sit on.
Also, you can hardly give furniture away. But, rather than enter into protracted negotiations with all manner of folk which will take ages and leave me with £50 if I’m lucky, I am happy to offer it here. You’d have to pick it up from Pickfords, and collect the cushions from me. If you feel moved to make a contribution, I’d be happy to accept.
It really is lovely and it grieves me to part with it, but needs must when the devil drives. It won’t go into my flat, and it’ll be very tricky to sell. Also, I have found it is very hard even to give such items to charities.
My new (dismantleable) one arrives today. I blimming well hope.
Yours, feeling somewhat world-weary,
