I am rather excited by this... I'm ready to go!
there's no need to say it out loud
and it's just arrived. This will be occupying me this weekend and keeping me out of trouble.. It has an AMAZING help guide attached to it. FUCKING HELL I am happy with this.
I'll be able to finally learn how to get the sounds out of my head now and into my MAC.
You'll have some evenings making some of the coolest stuff you've ever heard, looping and filtering tracks. Then the next day realise you've recorded none of it...or it sounds like shit..
Just take yourself off to the toilets for 15 mins.
You've got further than I've ever managed to then.
Every version I've tried to install hasn't worked. :(
a very good old dear friend of mine help me last night - it was a bit like ABLETON LIVE HELPDESK and he had the patience of a Saint with me (mini embarassed lol).
But I know how to do it now, so can help you! Except I am out with meths tonight. But this weekend! Yes!
That arrpegiator thing is amazing.
and I use it when we play live but have been waiting for a mac version...
Arrpagios feature heavily in Pris (synthtastic)...
but I find it very prescriptive, and the synth sounds are weedy and the effects are uninspiring. Everything in it's just so fucking clean.
If you use it on its own you'll just end up making lots of music that sounds like it was made in ableton.
I only use it for beat programming, for which it is actually really good. I have to export them to logic to make them sound remotely beefy though.
the only person i've heard do anything good with it is alcxxk.
I've not heard Alcxxk's stuff but this could be turning into a BAKE-OFF or something...
I have six weeks of being off line so shall be immersing self in Ableton during that time.
so I can't judge. and alcxxk seems to be some kind of human/ableton cyborg.
make sure you do a big JAG for your new tunes at the end of six weeks.
I am gonna go all Zappa on everyone... Yeah maaan... Yeah...
I stick to Reason for synthyness because I can put everything through layers of dirty distortion and EQ and that. I think that's one leaf the Ableton chaps could take out of their books, actually. As it is I'd probably not want to use Live for straight recording. Stick it through some pedals and stuff, though..?
Although to turn that on it's head, the Reason chaps should really nick the arpeggiator from Live (which I, er, think they might have done for the next version?).
I've not played with the arpeggiator much because I really like the one on my old groovebox. you can change it so much just by pushing loads of buttons you can get absolutely mental things happening really quickly.
perhaps I'll give it another look.
Drag on a Saturator effect or gain up/volume down on the EQ. There are a bunch of free VSTs that do it well too.
Annoyingly, I'm on the cut-down version so I can't go layering effect over effect as I'd like. I always forget that Live plays nice with VSTs, too; wonder if I can run it through Guitar Rig's effects..
how do you what can i?
die out.. as it's on You Send It from F-ly.
when importing aiff files into ableton can you make it so it doesn't automatically faff them to the bpm?
on the lower window editty thing just click "warp" and it will get rid of the faffing
It's really gay.
Loops are gay.
but then its just a baby pro tools with effects and stuff.
Actually, the automation is really good, but its still gay.
I only use it for fun.
Though i dont actually write any songs.
One of these days i will write THE BEST ALBUM EVER, and it wall all be recorded onto tape using hardware only.
YOU'LL ALL SEE!
