Good one, Craig (Steve)!
theres no point
to give me something to do until Heroes starts.
I'll say it again: England vs Germany: An Alan Smith(ee) Match.
Robinson, Richards, Ferdinand, Terry, Shorey, Beckham, Carrick, Lampard, J Cole, Smith, Owen.
Could well be.
Lehman's at the other end. Tonight would be a good night to get that Mr Bean shit he started the season with out of his system.
you were right to post it again
if we played with no strikers up front and just went with ten across the midfield in a straight line. That would really mess with their german heads, and make it more entertaining.
Defoe up front with Cole dropping off, Shaun Wright-Phillips on the right and Beckham on the left.
It's the fixation with Owen that really pisses me off though. In 2 seasons at Newcastle, he's played 15 games (according to Wikipedia). In the season before that, nearly every one of his appearances was made coming off the bench. In the season before that he was crap (and, if memory serves me correctly, spent about half of it injured).
So basically, he hasn't had a decent season, in any sense of the phrase, in 4 years. Add to that the fact that he's only recently come back from injury now, and there's no way he should even be in the squad, let alone the team. I don't care who he is - there is no one in the world who should get by on reputation alone for that amount of time. It's utterly absurd and equally embarrassing.
coming off the bench to score more goals than ronaldo and raul tho
to score more goals than two of the most overrated players (although in Ronaldo's case, more just fat) in world football against tired defenders isn't that impressive.
he was brilliant for madrid but totally overlooked cos he wasnt one of those two.
then he got injured. he's still our best striker
He was like Madrid's Solskjaer. If he does *anything* tonight, I'll... well... I'll be surprised (tap-ins don't count).
4-5-1 - Beckham up front.
I call it the Hollywood Offense.
first choice was Lita and Nugent. I don't understand why they pick Lita over either Walcott or Agbonlahor.
Guess he's still at the testing stage. Although Walcott was on fire against Romania the other day, apparently. Odds on he'll be seeing more action after that.
best striker in the world
he's not even the best in the premiership.
just accuse Owen of being racist?
talking about strikers, he mentioned lineker and shearer and when they went back to the studio wrighty said "its blatently obvious i didnt get a mention, i'm a brother..."
was it as good as this?
if you were a true fan you wouldnt of went to Canada knowing fine well there was an England friendly imminent.
do they always announce england friendlies like NFL matches now?
yawn. fuck this I'm supporting Germany.
'It'll be good for England to get a positive result tonight'
a) why do england play it around the back? we're shit at it.
b) why does the german manager look like he's stumbled in from the local 'indie rock night'?
lampard goal tho
commentary. The sooner the beeb get rid of motson the better!
micah richards looks wonderful. the joe cole tackle that provoked the yellow card was so stupid. what did he think he would achieve?!
owen/smith partnership = pretty gash.
the header was totally lacking in power
Owen needs to fuck off
It was virtually an open goal. That was just textbook German heroics.
save was pretty good though
it means robinson is gonna get the boot in favour of James for the qualifiers at least. Cole once again looks our most creative player, micah richards looks good. Shorey looks competent. Up front we look a bit weak, but we knew that before the game.
doesn't get a call-up, McLaren wants shooting
but still. no way.
where the goal is
He should just go ahead and put James on after the break. Why the hell not?
A key player like that in the NFL playing the way Robinson is at the moment would get replaced pretty much as soon as possible.
is on, shocker (?)
SWP should've been on long ago
i'd completely forgotton about this game.
midfield now = SWP, Barry, , Lampard Dyer. Why the fuck is barry in the middle and SWP on the left?
It does not make sense.
I'm so confused as to who is actually playing.
He's doing well. But yeah - why is Beckham still on?
the twatfarms in the corporate boxes have only just got back form half time and are entitles to see beckham at all times.
they play for Bristol City
of players who under no circumstances should never play for england, no matter how many injuries we have. It would be...
He stunk up the place for sure.
I know it's 'his' position now, but why was Micah Richards shunted into the middle like that? He was rocking the place. Wes Who?
Beckham playing for the full 90 = Mysterious shit. Especially with Wright-Phillips playing the way he did.
And... uh... I guess that's it.
started well, Germany no better than average, descended into mediocrity soon after we scored. Actually thought Lampard played well tonight, as did Richards, Shorey on the whole, Joe Cole and Wright-Phillips when he came on.
Why Beckham played the full 90 I'll never know, and if he's in the side come Israel and he's that unfit then I'll have lost all hope of...erm...well anything. Rio was awful, Terry was shown up completely by Kuranyi, my mum's got a better first touch than Wes Brown. And the mess Robbo made of the first goal. Dear oh dear oh dear.
Also, thank the lord I'm not an Arsenal fan. Lehmann was an utter embarrassment to the goalkeeping fraternity.
the man is a born loser, a caricature of Sven's worst points. Admittedly, we played well at points (the start), and rode the line between embarrassing and uninspiring in a fairly comfortable fashion. But there was just nothing there. I can't see Mclaren's hand in any part of the performance, and if pushed would class it as a loosely organised collection of pretty good players. Germany were poor tonight, but we still couldn't bring it together.
And the continued presence of Beckham.. wtf? If proof is needed that Macca has no clue then there you go. Best case scenario is that ol' Dave was getting one last run out before spending the rest of his England career sat on the bench
Some good point of course, but overall: same old England. And same old England is shite
great goal, one of the best I've seen from England of late. Richards just seems to get better and better. Then, with crushing predicability, we lose it before we even had it. Germany were nothing better than alright, but they ran the second half basically.
Still should have finished 2-2, but then McClaren is also suffering from the celebrated Owen/Dyer Syndrome. The last twenty minutes was quintessential England; fist-bitingly directionless, one or two inspired performaces drowning in a sea of mediocrity, lumping the ball at fucking Crouch who always looks so bewildered when he's pulled up for the thirty millionth time for climbing.
I hope we crash out of Europe, we need to get rid of McClaren before things are going to get any better. But we aren't, because we're going to beat Israel and probably finish second in our group and everything will be forgiven. AAARGH
i'd have taken a 20-0 beating tonight if it meant Macca was shown the door
but on the other hand, i still want England to qualify. Just with a massive shake up on the way
It was a bit shit really eh?
The midfield was more balanced but the service to the strikers was still atrocious. Especially when Crouch came on as then it was just the old long ball again. Which a giant like Mertesacker will win like every time.
Shorey didn't convince me as Cole kept cutting inside meaning Shorey had to provide service from the left flank but his crosses wern't up to much. Richards did well, well until the second half when the rampaging runs stopped.
Get Carson into goal now! At least he's done a good thing for England by moving to Villa.
Isn't it slightly depressing when we play Brown at centre back when Lescott is at home kicking his heels.
Playing two guys up front who've scored sod all goals in the last year never helps either.
"So what would you do when Gerrard comes back?"
"Play Lampard and Gerrard."
Alan Shearer, you FUCKING COCK.
He makes me more angry then Ian Wright does.
"As long as he performs like that he'll be in." Steve McClaren about David Beckham.
Do me a fucking favour. As soon as Crouch was on the field, Beckham was pinging 70 yard balls again onto the centre half's head. If Wright-Phillips maintains his form he has to start against Israel.
Plus Shearer = fucking cock. He is going to make a really fucking good manager.
first half good. second half, not so good.
I thought his job was basically stopping Mclaren from being a gimp. He's not doing very well.
when the going gets tough. Overrated wanker.
he's either not advising mclaren at all, or giving him SHIT advice, or giving him good advice which Mclaren is ignoring. Any way he's a waste of a ludicrous salary.
Fully fit England XI vs. Israel:
if nothing else he should stop letting McClaren say stuff like this.
"Of course, it's very disappointing for the fans - but there are so many 'positives'. If we keep creating chances like that we've got to score some - it was a very tough game against a very, very good Germany side."
Sorry Steve, there wasn't that many positives at all. Richards, Joe Cole, and Wright-Phillips' cameo granted. Germany weren't a very very good side either. They were an average side that were there for the taking, and as usual we came up short. If I read tomorrow's paper and see him lauding Beckham's performance I'm going to march down to Soho Square and bloody well have it out with him.
steady as ever.
Smith? looks good considering his lack of big match experience recently. wish we hadnt have sold him to the mint humbug tossers anyway
as did Smith, but they didn't pull up trees. I wouldn't mark them down as positives particularly. Although compared to some of it I guess they were.
successful or not, always come out and say "we were shite tonight and its my fault" or "a few players were crap and need to sort themselves out". Why the england manager, (with all the spin doctors and gurus he employs) can't undertand that fans like to hear honesty is beyond me.
*people like Strachan Pearce Redknapp sometimes, Holloway etc.
managers (and players) who treat their fans as fools in post match interviews really piss me off. Have some balls and admit we came up short. Again.
that McClaren has any sort of clue
you should probably ignore my last post
wright phillips is superior anyway, ive never seen lennon do anything for england.
that's just my spurs bias. He is a very important player though.
second only to George Best. Seriously.
no stopping it. I really enjoyed Lehmann's attempts at goalkeeping last night too. I really hope he remains Arsenal number 1.
Almunia and Cerny?
shall we start the bandwagon for the Cureton call-up here?
Cureton and Ashton ftw
Rob Green in goal.
he can't be any worse surely?
Andy Marshall on the bench?
have an English grandparent?
Is he still manager of Gorleston?
he left them at the beginning of last season, he certainly wasn't in charge when they tapped up Ryan Wharton in October. Apparently he had a falling out with the chairman. His parting words were "I quit. Diss Town isn't big enough for the both of us."
he is quite rotund now
Ian Marshall on the bench. Ahead of Brown and Dyer anyway.
Lee Marshall playing where Beckham was
Malcolm Marshall's corpse (may he rest in peace) as McClaren's assistant.
he'd be playing right-back.
In my pantheon of Norwich heroes
Cureton > Eadie > Mackay > Huckerby > Sutch
should be playing down the left.
Huckerby > Downing
the apologies are all mine
done, but the way Lehmann was playing he'd probably have dived over it anyway. His effort last night almost won me over. I thought he played well, and ought to be applauded for playing despite Chelsea wanting him to pull out of the squad because of a dodgy toe. Like the one that made Gerrard withdraw 3 days before completing 90 minutes for Liverpool against Chelsea. Fair play to the greedy fucker.
Owen Hargreaves play?
he pulled out as well.
I swear I have never seen him score a non-deflected goal.
