we sound like this:
www.myspace.com/eastindiaplayingcompany

if you're at all interested/if you can guide me on what kind of pedal would suit.

  • Depends on budget

If youre going for cheap/portable get a boss thingy. Theyre usually really good. Rv-3 or something.

Next step up would be a line 6 modeller i think. Theyre brilliant.

After that would be a big fuck off rackmount or reel to reel tape things. Theyre so cool. You can get a roland space echo or echoplex on ebay for a couple hundred

      xx

      • You should try and get something analog

        they sound "warmer"

        Warning: contains guitar nerd

        • why is it

that when i hear anything with even a hint of chorus i feel completely repulsed?

          -Mark- @yes_ | 17 Aug '07, 23:03 | X
          • every right thinking person should be repulsed by chorus

it is vile, it is a testament to the talent of the smiths and red house painters that there songs were stron enough to not be destroyed by this hideous effect

            ThingsThatFly @-Mark- | 17 Aug '07, 23:19 | X
            • Yeah

I think chorus should have been made illegal after 1987.

              yes_ @ThingsThatFly | 17 Aug '07, 23:27 | X
              • and it's always the standard 'effect they stick on amps

:( hate. i've even got it on my keyboard.

                neecho @yes_ | 17 Aug '07, 23:28 | X
        • thats a delay.

          and it is teh lame.

          Heliotrope @yes_ | 17 Aug '07, 23:11 | X
          • but

            http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=sfuwaYxG3cU&mode=related&search= IS a delay.

            Heliotrope @Heliotrope | 17 Aug '07, 23:12 | X
        • that guy is awesome!

          deadcats @yes_ | 17 Aug '07, 23:37 | X
    • a couple of hundred?

      worth it?
i am looking for a very very large and warmer sound. some of this digital stuff sounds a little turgid.
i've only been playing since christmas, i don't know much about it all.

      neecho @yes_ | 17 Aug '07, 23:20 | X
      • Check out

        www.musiciansfriend.com

They have shit loads of stuff and audio demos for most things.
I would definitely go analog and get a tape echo if you can. Theyre brilliant, and also really cool. I saw a danelectro tape echo for real cheap but i dunno how good it would be, given that theyre essentially a budget line.

        yes_ @neecho | 17 Aug '07, 23:30 | X
        • this seems pretty perfect no?

          http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Danelectro-Reel-Echo-Tape-Simulator-Pedal?sku=151903

          neecho @yes_ | 17 Aug '07, 23:44 | X
          • Oh its a "simulator"

ive never actually heard it, but youd probably be best getting the reel(LOL!) thing if you can.
Go into sound control or something and try it out.

            yes_ @neecho | 18 Aug '07, 00:04 | X
            • ok maan, i'll do it

              thanks for the help.

              neecho @yes_ | 18 Aug '07, 00:21 | X
  • ...

the RV5 is nice, but it's noticeably digital sounding and a bit bright..

    -Mark- | 17 Aug '07, 22:57 | X
    • and by that i mean

that what you're going for needs something a bit more cavernous and dark.. which the space echo yes_ mentioned would do really nicely..

boss have actually re-issued them in a double pedal form, but i'm not sure how they sound in comparison..

      -Mark- @-Mark- | 17 Aug '07, 23:00 | X
      • theyre supposed to be pretty good from what i've heard.

        Heliotrope @-Mark- | 17 Aug '07, 23:07 | X
  • go to

    http://www.guitargeek.com/

And ask someone on their forums. Some of the most pedal-knowledgeable people around are on there and they're usually really helpful.

    Filip | 17 Aug '07, 23:03 | X
    • this.

guitargeek is basically the best site on the internet for discussion of guitar gear.

      Heliotrope @Filip | 17 Aug '07, 23:07 | X
      • i think the best thing to do is

go to a music store and try stuff out.
guitar geek is good, but if you just read about tonnes of stuff on there and listen to 30 sec clips you end up like

        http://youtube.com/watch?v=fosr3B0p79A

        yes_ @Heliotrope | 17 Aug '07, 23:10 | X
  • popular reverbs include

the boss rv-5. but everyone has that. the new line6 verbzilla, which is supposed to be very good. has lots of really interesting stuff, including shimmer and ducking. and optional trails. trails is good stuff. the electro harmonix ones (holy/holier/holiest grail) are always popular, but they arent as versatile as the others. and it depends if you're into eh. they kinda annoy me as a company.

    Heliotrope | 17 Aug '07, 23:10 | X
    • How so?

They always seem to have constantly solid and interesting products at reasonable prices to me.

      yes_ @Heliotrope | 17 Aug '07, 23:12 | X
      • they havent done anything

especially new and exciting for a long time. and i dunno, people talk about them like theyre super super super amazing. when really, theyre just average.

        Heliotrope @yes_ | 17 Aug '07, 23:15 | X
        • basically,

          they just bother me.

          Heliotrope @Heliotrope | 17 Aug '07, 23:15 | X
  • I find a little compression really enhances

    clean guitar with reverb

    ThingsThatFly | 17 Aug '07, 23:42 | X
  • bf

    hey ratfucker

Get your ass on ebay and buy either a Pioneer Sr 101 or a fisher Spacexpander

They are valve reverb units made in the states, in the sixties, and generally go for about a hundred dollars each, possibly less.

    grockle | 18 Aug '07, 01:56 | X
    • "who recommended me? (just wanna know)"

sweet. i'l check up on that!

      • bf

        hehehe

        'gold-digger, meet your fuckin' maker'

Do so! They whole thing about guitar effects is that you can spend less money and get a more unique sound if you use yer bonce- in my opinion. You can use certain old reel to reels as delay units, for, like thirty quid, ditto tape recorders as valve distortion units...you get so much more of an interesting sound than 'BOSS' etc

        • i AM looking for an interesting sound

this is the sorta advice i'd like. i'll almost certainly come back to you for more.
          this is gollldddd

pm me when you want to delve into the realms of cheap gear geeking...I've got a few good tips- model numbers to look out for etc ;)

            grockle @neecho | 18 Aug '07, 02:29 | X
            • cheap? great!

              geeking? great!
              realms? great!
like, all this stuff means nothing to me right now, valves, reel to reel, it all means nothing. been playing guitar less than a year, man, i'm a n00b!
