meths [Edit] [Delete] 53 replies 12:59, 15 August '07

i was listening to talksport last night for 15 minutes. in that small space of time, 5 spurs fans phoned in saying they thought jol should be sacked.

spurs fans are the MOST ludikris fans in the world.

    • pointless sacking him

although questions need to be asked about the lack of a left sided midfielder, and general creativity from t'middle.

they do have a lot of defenders out, but, well, I'm laughing quite a bit at the whole thing.

      chuckbarris @thewarn | 15 Aug '07, 13:01 | X
      • ITS 2 GAMES IN!!!!!

"yeah i reckon spurs for 4th this season" i hate them

        meths @chuckbarris | 15 Aug '07, 13:03 | X
  • yeah

cos the people who phone talksport are typical mentally sound fans.

    harru | 15 Aug '07, 13:00 | X
    • they are actually

      meths @harru | 15 Aug '07, 13:01 | X
      • my friend rang them once, he is a spurs fan

        omg jewish media conspiracy

        chuckbarris @meths | 15 Aug '07, 13:01 | X
  • most fans of most

Premiership clubs are ridiculous. Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs, West Ham, Newcastle, Liverpool etc are mostly followed by ingrates and ignorants. Those that post of DiS are remarkably un-like this. Also, football phone-ins should be banned.

  • Spurs fans are, generally, twats

And I know this because I lived with one for about 20 years, and he would often show me many of the ramblings that appeared on their many messageboards

What do they expect? People are focusing far too much on how much money Spurs have spent as opposed to what they've actually done with it. £10m for a teenage left back? £8m for a 20 year old centre back? Yeah, nice one. I'm sure those deals are really gonna catapult you into the big time this year

Bent, I'll admit, is a good signing. But you can only generally play two strikers at once. Giving Defoe such little playing time last year clearly affected his confidence, and so then when Jol DOES bring him on he does fuck all, and the vicious cycle continues

    dove_from_above | 15 Aug '07, 13:05 | X
    • i don't know WHAt defoe is thinking about

staying at Spurs. As 4th choice striker he will get very few games, and some sub appearances, but nowhere near enough to get a good run of form going.

Why didn't he go somewhere like Villa or Man City where he would be appreciated? mental.

      tobythecat @dove_from_above | 15 Aug '07, 13:08 | X
      • Totally

He's a really, really good player. In terms of finishing, he's probably the third or fourth best English striker. Play him regularly and he'll get you plenty of goals

He's just suffered from Keane being unexpectedly brilliant for the last two years or so

        dove_from_above @tobythecat | 15 Aug '07, 13:10 | X
        • Keane

          is unbelievably wasted at Spurs.

          See also:
          Berbatov
          King
          Lennon (maybe)
          Kaboul

who should all be playing at better clubs.

          olegrich @dove_from_above | 15 Aug '07, 13:11 | X
        • yeah

surely he can see the situation he is in though? and realise the pecking order is (probably):
          - Berbatov
          - Keane
          - New-boy Bent
          - -
          - - him.

Maybe he doesn't want a career? Like SWP!

          tobythecat @dove_from_above | 15 Aug '07, 13:12 | X
        • Spurs fans

also seem to be the nastiest as well. (Not the ones on here though, I enjoy the banter) Whenever they seem to be losing an argument, they always resort to things like saying Wenger is a paedophile etc etc.

I would be bitter if my team hadn't won the league since 1961 I suppose.

          olegrich | 15 Aug '07, 13:06 | X
          • Wegner is...

            ... a paedophile.

              olegrich @Jah_Pat | 15 Aug '07, 13:15 | X
        • If I was spurs manager:

I'd sign a left mid, quickly. I think we will once we get 6 million (lolz) for Mido.

I honestly think our whole team, particularly our midfield, would immediately look better and more balanced as soon as this happens. There's nothing wrong with JEnas or Malbranque, can you think of anyone we could realistically get in who would be better?

          harru | 15 Aug '07, 13:13 | X
          • Once Boateng is fit

get Jenas out of there. He is awful. His only attribute is that he has a good engine.

            olegrich @harru | 15 Aug '07, 13:14 | X
            • i hate players with a "good engine"

              lee carsley
              phil neville
              mikael silvestre
              dennis wise

              meths @olegrich | 15 Aug '07, 13:15 | X
              • Carsley and Neville

were pretty dominant last night in the battle of the engines.

                Add to your list:

                Robbie Savage

                olegrich @meths | 15 Aug '07, 13:17 | X
                • savage is more of a "ball winning midfielder"

plus, he can actually pass further than 4 metres.

                  meths @olegrich | 15 Aug '07, 13:21 | X
          • mido is a good player

            meths @harru | 15 Aug '07, 13:14 | X
            • when he was a bit heavier

              olegrich @meths | 15 Aug '07, 13:15 | X
            • he can be

but he fluctuates so extremely between good and absolutely uninterested and fat that we don't need him.

I'm not going to start the Jenas>Hleb thing again ;)

              harru @meths | 15 Aug '07, 13:16 | X

                • I was surprised to see Berbatov in a Spurs shirt last night,

I had it on good authority that he was going to be a Man Utd player this season...

                  :)

                • All clubs have stupid fans.

One Newcastle message board has a section of fans believing we can win the title this year, and challenge the top 2/3.

                  !!!!

                  IrishMagpie | 15 Aug '07, 13:15 | X
                • Regarding Spurs,

did they really need a £16m striker? They already had Berbatov, Keane, and Defoe.

                  IrishMagpie | 15 Aug '07, 13:20 | X
                  • we didn't *need* him

but it's good to have him.

And you can't say we should've spent the money on the defence or midfield because we've got the money to improve both. We just didn't.

Although Kaboul looked good against Sunderland and the 17 mins of his home debut he managed to complete.

                    harru @IrishMagpie | 15 Aug '07, 13:23 | X
                  • No they didn't

I know they have injuries but they clearly needed a left winger. Why they didn't try harder to get Petrov I don't know. I think Bent and Boateng will prove to be pretty average

                    Placid_Casual @IrishMagpie | 15 Aug '07, 13:23 | X
                    • petrov

was being greedy and went for the money. Nothing you can do about that. I'm waiting to see if this Guti deal goes through.

                      harru @Placid_Casual | 15 Aug '07, 13:27 | X
                      • guti is a great player

                        but not a left winger

                        meths @harru | 15 Aug '07, 13:29 | X
                        • exactly

he's another central midfielder. But Jol will probably ask him to play left mid.

                          hendonturnstile26 @meths | 15 Aug '07, 13:33 | X
                • I

told a Spurs supporting friend of mine before the season started that having spent all that cash, if Spurs didn't get off to a good start then Jol would be under pressure. He told me that there was no chance. Now he wants him sacked.

Anyhoo, if Spurs didn't get a win in the next 2/3 games then you can guarantee there will be questions about him staying in the job

                  Judge_B | 15 Aug '07, 13:21 | X
                  • if he gets sacked I will seriously stop caring about spurs

it would be the most ridiculous thing ever.

                    • He's never been any good

he gets the odd goal, but overall his contribution is way below where it should be for someone who's on the fringes of the England side.

thanks Arteta! (although i'm sure it said he got 2 assists on BBC sport...)

but i also foolishly spent 8 on transfers to get a team that would be playing this gameweek :(

so now i am just 4 points better off than i was to start with.

                  • If I were Spurs chairman

I'd have a white cat and a big spinny chair overlooking the pitch. And... umm... I'd tell Jol if we didn't finish 4th, he'd be getting the sack. Not because I think we should, but 40 FUCKING MILLION POUNDS. Then I'd probably assess how likely that was to happen throughout the season and sack him anyway for not dropping Jermaine Jenas.

                    • Carlisle sacked their manager

after 1 game this season. Which they didn't even lose! And the same guy had just led them to their highest league position for over 20 years! And the official press statement was that the dismissal was football related!

                      Now THAT is fickle.
