This. That sound like a fantastic idea.
i did 2½ days and i hated the first day, really enjoyed the second when i'd gotten into little routines and was a bit sad when i finally arrived on the third.
i'm not sure i could cope with longer though..
I am uber-jealous of crabbers if he's doing it..
that covered the entire US network (plus a few connections into Canada) for £200.
i must have travelled about 4500 miles in that time.
although i think it travels at the start along the same route as the new york -> buffalo -> chicago train up the Hudson river valley, which is some stunning countryside fo' sure.
that would be "the start" if you're starting in NYC.
