Is this a good idea or encroaching into another's culture?
there is a crucial difference between arranged and forced marriages.
of course forced marriages are a bad thing. I think arranged marriages are quite a nice idea, if it all works well.
tells me that the way he sees it is that he'll probably have an arranged marriage but figures that his parents have known him all his life and will be able to make a good choice for him.
an arranged marriage would be alot easier for me for sure.
The only difference between an arranged marriage and a forced one is that in a forced marriage, the father may stand at the altar pointing a shotgun at the "happy" couple. In an arranged marriage, the weapons is cultural obligation.
That said, if my folks want to go off and find me some chick to marry without any effort on my part - who am I to say no?
A. A citizen of a free country.
that isn't about stopping FORCED marriages at all though. none of those are measures that will avoid someone beng married to someone against their will, it just seems to be all about making sure the spouse will be able to integrate into british society well.
shouldn't be allowed in the UK. Obviously.
This proposal isn't really going to change that much though, the requirement to sign up if you intend to marry someone abroad will increase bureaucracy for a relatively small number of people, whilst the other restrictions will merely inconvenience those have been coerced into forced marriages, those who have spontaneously married a foreigner abroad, and those who didn't sort out all the paperwork.
If I'm reading it right anyway.
