Fact-o-Rama - 08/08/2007
the wood frog is the only species of frog that lives north of the arctic circle.
they hibernate during winter, where up to 67% of their bodies may freeze. they have a natural 'immunity' to this, where they will place themselves in a form of 'suspended animation' - their heart stops, their breathing stops, their brain activity stops, and their body bumps out a natural form of antifreeze.
come springtime, when the land thaws, so does the frog. within a few hours, they are able to recover and go hopping off on whatever froggy business they have.
life - pretty amazing?
