Jihad and terrorist recruiting on Second Life?
though not to that story.
I refuse to join it. Why not just have that shit available to view?
1st, phones were used by criminals to talk to each other!!! Then, they used fax machines to send bank blueprints to each other. Now!!! they use the internet to communicate evil things to each other!!!! And train, rather than fly out to Pakistan. that must be a lot easier.
Seems to me it'd be a lot harder to do when you haven't got a large group of acolytes to get in the new recruit's face and peer-pressure him into jihad.
they could just threaten to spread rumours on facebook about him being a fag.
for everything on facebook.
There's no hard evidence at all - all they've got to go on is that buildings have been blown up virtually (which might have been done by a terrorist, but they don't know), people have names that mean 'terrorist' in Arabic (which might mean they're a terrorist, but they don't know) and a lot of money has been transferred via the site (which might be funding terrorism, but they don't know). Basically, it's being published because journalists think that mentioning Second Life makes them seem relevant, and the terrorist angle makes it look like news. Which is clearly isn't.
then i thought, well, for a laugh, i could set-up an account and set-up a dis thing and then encourage you all to blow it up.
but how are you supposed to blow stuff up? can you buy sticks of dynamite and drop them and leg it?
i thought it was like the Sims but more complicated and online. no?
we can come up with this charmingly baffling sentence:
'Islamic militants are suspected of using Second Life, the internet virtual world, to mimic real-life terrorism.'
a DiS Second Life meet up.
Do people do flash-mobs on there?
And could I technically get everyone to chip in for an effigy of Borrell and us all ritualistically destroy it? Thought it might be a nice stunt for the relaunch.
