cos I fucking love it.
That crazy Italian bitch
a classic if ever there was one.
Give me Des Moivres any time though.
pythagoras. For sheer GCSE nostalgia.
but not in a "geek chic" way, in a "yeah, maths is pretty interesting" way.
I bought An eternal golden braid by douglas r hofstadter but i had to stop reading it cos i have to read novels for school.
Show your workings:
I'm into engineering books at the moment. Yeah I meant the maths is interesting way - I've got two maths a levels.
science in general is pretty great
is only good cos of the maths in it. Hence, Physics is the best science.
and there is nothing as satisfying as finally "getting" a complicated formula.
thats so true.... its so euphoric when you do pages and pages of workings and then end up with the right answer. Brilliant!
then i did a Maths degree
thats why i applied for engineering
but they only do them at oxford, which theres no way in hell im getting into, and york, which im really not enthusiastic about. Im sure there are other places but i havnt looked too hard yet.
Im just gonna hope i can get a good physics one with a year in france.
I've got a friend going there. The whole oxford thing is stressful (i failed at it).... thatas a pretty obscure degree though. Sounds cool. I looked into maths + phil back in the day.
apparently thats really gay or something, says my dad. Plus i want to be in a city.
Depending on my higher results i might apply to Imperial for physics with a year in paris. That would be amazing
I couldn't deal with the whole london thing though. I like small places- like Durham which is where (if my grades go good) I should be off to.
You should check out these places before you make judgements and stuff though - its much better to see for yourself, because if you pick the wrong place itll be horrendously bad.
maths? Not so much.
One of the most beautiful things ever. I'm currently loving Complex Analysis.
Yes_, Maths&Phil is offered at Bristol,Warwick,Durham,Kcl etc etc. I've been told by Oxford that if I get the grades I'm predicted in STEP maths, I should be able to go there for the course this year
+ an honourable mention for Cantor
KCL do physics with philosophy with a year abroad. I never knew that.
If i could get language courses then go to paris for that year, it would be my perfect course.
Whats the difference between bsc and a masters? Ive only seen unis offering Mphysphil and not a Bsc
well i like some maths, though engineering maths got a bit much and far too unanswerable, but on the whole i find it quite satisfying.
i remember any.
Hitler, Saddam Hussein, The Devil, Maggie Thatcher, George Bush, George W Bush
you're in good company
How come Brits pluralize "math" to "maths"? Your whole "we spell words correctly" rant breaks down at this point, eh?
it's a shortening, both are valid
which ends in an s.
I like maths. Wish I got to use more of it really
I hate it...
I found it so easy at school for reasons I can't fathom. I did my two A-level papers in an hour and 20 minutes each (we had three hours each) with no revision and got an 'A'. For some reason it was just... easy.
I'm not saying this to boast - I got a 'D' in music and that's what I really wanted the 'A' in. I was horribly, horribly jealous of the naturally musically talented people at school, and had no desire on the other hand to be an accountant.
