which ones are good?
My friend likes them and it's his birthday soon so I might get him one.
stress the comedy....
than DWMC in any genre.
Harold & Kumar is also worth a look, or, if you're tediously obvious, Cheech & Chong or Dazed & Confused
what's it like?
I like Richard Linklater.
This seems to have potential.
in which Linklater speaks through his characters in a long, disjointed, but flowing anti-narrative.
all the Linklater films then?
is such a bad film.
I really don't understand the affection people have for it.
Funny. Nihilistic. But warm. But then not at all.
Jack was the best (albeit brief bit)
after that the film just seemed to meander for me.
I like that.
There doesn't always have to be thrust and point.
Look at Jim Jarmusch...
I do like films like that.
But it didn't meander in a good way.
To be blunt I was very very bored by the film
that one and probably most of the well known stuff.
or dumb and dumber.
> Road Trip by a billion.
I prefered American Pie to Road Trip.
I just like American Pie. I guess cos I was a teenager when it was released I just associate it with good memories.
Also I was quite surprised that there have been FIVE sequels to it...
I was hoping that there might be some more obscure stuff.
He/we have seen most of these. Except Cheech and Chong. But I'd heard that was shit?
you're WELL fired.
or how high, or dead man on campus, dead man on campus has zak out of saved by the bell and he smokes a MASSIVE bong
is a classic in our house.
The other two are new...I'll look into those.
Just in case people wondered we do watch other films as well....
great too :) idle hands has the geezer from the offspring getting scalped while playing a gig at the prom dance thing hehe a great moment
only a few bits of stonage, but tons of stupidity
stating that How High was one of The Classic Stoner Movies
obvs cheech and chong
freddy got fingered?
The rest - yeah.
in the genre.
But some really good stuff as well.
you have to be stoned to find it even remotely funny
is the connoisseur's choice.
although much of it is deeply rubbish
is by far the best.
It's a true marker of taste
in my life.
I'm pretty sure it depends on the context in which you first saw it
I really have.
So so many bad films.
it sounds so bad.
truly abysmal, but I think an extremely valuable experience in that it completely obliterates your critical boundaries and gets you to fundamentally question your conception of "good" and "bad".
and it didn't even make me chuckle. so i stopped.
and i usually like films like that.
Like Harold + Kumar, Old School, American Pie, and to a lesser extnet, Road Trip
I have a really weird dichotomy of really liking the so called 'highbrow' films bbut also really liking stupid comedies like these.
However I have never and never will like Spider Man and it's ilk.
while not a 'stoner film' per se, because no-one smokes in it as far as i remember, it is very similar. Its basically set in a frat house, but with Vince Vaughn, Luke Wilson + Will Ferrell. Its a lot better than it sounds.
All of those actors have been good....
highly recommended by me for getting drunk (stoned?) to with friends - guaranteed stream of laughter!
Anyone else here seen it?
Me = Will Ferrell getting drunk at Mitch-a-palooza, Luke Wilson at the beginning, and his best mans speech, Will Ferrell at the kids birthday party!
Maybe Slacker as well.
- he might have seen it?
I probably would, but i don't want to be responsible if he doesn't like it! Not that he wouldn't - you would actually have to be a rotting corpse not to find it funny. even then....
I'll try and find out discreetly.
I still have about 2 weeks.
PC Load Letter? What the fuck does that even mean? Piece of shit printer...
at the kids party is genuinely hysterical when he shoots himself with that dart.
Awesome! You shot yourself in the neck!
Whaaat? You're crazy.... I like you, but you're crazy man!
is a fantastically awful movie, but when you are stoned with your mates, it IS a work of genius
I have liked every Kevin Smith film.
I really like the dude.
but yeh the others are all great, even J&SBSB
I think a lot of people don't really understand that Kevin Smith isn't especially interesting in making films that critics will like.
That's why he uses the same actors etc.
yet still his movies are consistantly better than any of the other major US comedies of the same ilk
I'm with you on the Super Troopers
why did he have a note at the end of Chasing Amy forgiving all the critics who said Mallrats sucked?
