Do you think it's possbile that we'll one day be able to create an electronic brain that you can download your personality on to that will outlive your human self?

  • considering how far we've come already

    yeah

i mean, just look at me! the body i inhabited died a long time ago, but most of my personality is still stored in various places on the interweb, creating a digital me

ok, it has a limited vocabulary, a purely sarcastic sense of humour and a general inability to convey anything without profanities and insults. But thats pretty close to my original human form anyway

    the future truly is bright

  • Didn't Ross say this

    breadfan | 27 Jul '07, 00:40 | X
    • HAHAH

Yeah, he did. He totally did.

      Brilliant.

  • Simple answer.

I reckon yes, as chemichally our brains are semi equivalent to ones and zeros. Its less the data transfer aspect than the neuronal mapping side of things I reckon, as the interactions between various data sets are what makes the brain so unique.

  • Did you ever see Strange Days?

    TheoGB | 27 Jul '07, 11:20 | X
    • That was a film

      he means in real life.

      Bless you...

      zxcvbnm- @TheoGB | 27 Jul '07, 12:08 | X
  • yes absolutely

whether it is actually feasible is a different matter. I don't understand people who object to this kind of thinking. It is as if they believe in some sort of soul or something, the bells.

    doctornovocalcords | 27 Jul '07, 12:06 | X
    • i don't know where i stand on the soul

but i cannot believe that you can download a brain including all the personal differences between one another into a machine. look at what happened with cyber men, the one that maintained any emotions cried oil, that doesn't sound fun!

      pieces_of_reece @doctornovocalcords | 27 Jul '07, 12:10 | X
      • I admire your attempt to base your beliefs on Dr Who

        I do the same.

        doctornovocalcords @pieces_of_reece | 27 Jul '07, 12:21 | X
        • ^5

Dr who is actually the greatest thing on tele ever

          pieces_of_reece @doctornovocalcords | 27 Jul '07, 12:25 | X
          • I think I agree

it's definitely the single best idea for a TV programme ever

            doctornovocalcords @pieces_of_reece | 27 Jul '07, 12:26 | X
  • not for a very long time

im pretty sure that consciousness is still a big mystery to science

    ThingsThatFly | 27 Jul '07, 12:09 | X
    • it doesn't exist

      doctornovocalcords @ThingsThatFly | 27 Jul '07, 12:20 | X
      • so said one of my tutors at university

you can certainly argue that people get too bogged down in what consciousness means and that it is fundamentally irrelevant
