I just made the team I've been mulling over in my head all 'summer'.
I'm banking on a resurgent Newcastle Utd.
I'm totally gonna beat myself in the Brainlove All-Stars league.
I want to build on my top 20 finish last season. I was actually top 10 for quite a while, but I lost interest towards the end.
Not this time. My new found Newcastle-related optimism will ensure I stay interested.
of Man U.
Villa might be worth a punt. Steer clear of Reading, I sense a severe degree of second season syndrome about to be imminent.
Also, Bolton, Man City, and Wigan. No-go areas.
But they have Eriksson in charge...
Look at his track record. The problem with England national team is NOT mismanagement. It is a strangely skewed, cowed, press-battered, expectation-laden mentality.
He made one or two choices that people didn't agree with, but he made some unpopular decisions that people came around to totally (Crouch? Hargreaves?).
The idea that Sven is a bad manager because England didn't go out and win everything is a bit ignorant basically. Soz.
Their first team squad consists of about 16 player with experience. They need at least another ten. Eriksson has been out of the tranfer market for 5 years now, and only really has expereince with England internationals of the past 5years, all of which come with a premium.
He's not a bad manager, not at all, but I wonder if £50m and 8 weeks is enough to build up a decent squad. Right now, I think Cities stock is about as low as it can get with out them being A) relegated or B) Wigan.
On the other hand, £50m could be a completely arbitrary figure and Sven having known that the job has been his for a few months now may have already been doing the groundwork...
I wouldn't write them off. Nope.
didn't concede many, especially at home, plus sven is at the very least going to get them thoroughly organised at the back (england always looked pretty damn solid with him).
i reckon that with some decent signings they'll do okay. good youngsters with more experience too.
It will no doubt change, but here it is for now:
Lescott Terry Distin
Ronaldo Barton Gerrard Reo-Coker
Owen Bent Earnshaw
Subs: Niemi Nosworthy Bramble Smertin
I've never been able to pick defenders that get me decent points :(
Vidic Woodgate Bale
Hunt Rosicky Ronaldo Scholes
Torres Viduka Tevez
I want to see how much play Bale and Scholes are likely to get, how shit reading and Man City are, and if Tevez moves to man u before I decide.
But Everton, Chelsea, and Pompey will all have tight-ish defences. Also, Terry tends to score the odd goal. And my forwards are goal machines. Wherever Owen plays, he'll score. And Bent will score at least 20. Even Earnshaw is a good scorer, and he cost 4.5
I like your forward line a lot.
Viduka, Van Persie, Berbatov.
I've got Viduka and Berbatov too :)
Well I've got Bent, and he scored today against Stevenage =D
Or as you wish.
On the next page you'll see a starting XI.
Click the yellow box (a 'down' arrow) next to a player in your starting XI to drop them. If you start with 4-4-2 and drop a midfielder, promote a striker to play 4-3-3.
Are you suuuuuuure?
The days of our dodgy defence are over. Look at the amount of saves Given made last season, despite the lack of clean sheets. By the time Sam re-arranges our defence, we'll be tough to break down.
He was out with injury though... maybe you're right. Hope so. But instinct says no.
on last season. It's a different league this time around, with different managers, and different players. Unless someone has been consistent for more than a season, I just make wild predictions of someone's form.
1. Van Der Sar
Subs: Jordan, Meite, O'Brian, Jeffers
Could of done alot worse
subs: kirkland, boyce, smertin, hughes
go me !!!!
might want to think about rearranging.
What happened to him? He's only ever had a few good months, and now finally, he is dropping to a suitable standard, at the age of 26.
and was going to go on and be truly great. Wenger bought him for a large transfer fee paid and he turned out to be a damp squib.
i'm not the only one playing 4-4-2! I was starting to think noone else would!
Finnan, Agger, Terry, Ferreira
Gerrard, Lampard, Seol, McCulloch
subs: Niemi, Leadbitter, O'Connor, Jaidi
Toure, Woodgate, Terry, Yobo
Gilberto, Reo Coker, Arteta, Alonso
Martins, Van Persie
subs: Green, Dawson, Jenas, Lita
could be going to Rangers.
not seol though.
plenty time to change it.
i'd thought of that.
My team is:
Carragher, Bale, Distin, Silvestre
Cahill, Essien, Alonso, Milner
Van Persie, Tevez.
Kirkland, Mellberg, Doyle, Hargreaves
This will change, drastically.
