I don't need it for games or anything, just internet and dull work stuff (Powerpoint, MS Office etc.).

Quality brands to look out for? I hear Dells are wank and break easily, for example.

I probably have up to a grand to spend but want to spend a fair bit less than that if I can.

I don't want a Mac.
