Thanks for your time.
was like two hours though.
They were actually very good.
I love you, you contrary fucker. Surely there are more than that? Or have you only found this somnolence coming on in the last few months?
There might have been more, but these are the most recent. And there are various stages you have to acheive before you can enter the sweet land of gig somnolence.
1) The band must be fucking boring.
2) The band must be fucking boring AND derivative of a band you've heard before.
3) There must be a seat.
You said you liked Manatees when we saw them at the Windmill, so I'm moving to have the Rota gig stricken from the official record.
Did I? Technically since I fell asleep BOTH times I've seen them, I'm in no position to tell you whether they're good or not.
as far as I can make out. And there was plenty of seating available.
i was very nearly asleep standing up during pelican and my girlfriend did actually fall asleep standing up.
I don't think it counts if you've gone back to the chalet for a kip. I dozed off towards the end of Low's set, but I was still conscious of the music, if that makes sense.
both just going through the motions
you contrary fucker
and im sure you didn't ACTUALLY fall asleep.
I did ACTUALLY fall asleep.
Oh, and I remembered:
4) November Coming Fire
that made you fall asleep...
Red House Painters
oh god the list is endless.
i did sleep though the ...Trail Of Dead set at Reading 2000.
The list of bands who have played gigs whilst I have (coincidentally) been asleep is mega-mega.
I was very tired both times though.
i was jumping up and down and dancing so hard when i saw them at Reading that i was scared i was going to faint when it finished and miss bloc party. luckily a nice man gave me some water.
It wasn't an unpleasant experience.
I love Iron Maiden.
It was at Earls Court last December. I'd had lots to drink beforehand, we were standing in the section right at the back, and they were steadfastly refusing to play anything that wasn't off their new album (until right at the end). I fell asleep standing up. My brother woke me up. Then he fell asleep. Our other brother was quite angry.
"I've seen more exciting metal bands holding barrels together."
chiaroscuro, c. 2005
And I'm sure I wouldn't have fallen asleep had I known the songs. But I'm never going to an indoor show where I have to be that far away from the action again.
They did the same at Download this year too. but, it's so worth it when they break into the old classics!
Lol, the three of you together reminds me of the Three Stooges at a Maiden gig.
Don't listen to old stick in the mud below....
Biffy Clyro (all 3 times)
My Chemical Romance
almost at bright eyes at koko, and ryan adams at shepherds bush...horrible gigs.
first two cos I was REALLY tired.
third cos I was REALLY drunk at Truck last year. - I was later confronted about this at Green Man by an absolutely terrifying young lady who identified herself as 'bunnyhops, i'm friends with theo'. after shouting 'restlessboy!' at me then running away. When I accused her of being aggressive she said 'I'm not aggressive! I'm not aggressive! I'm not aggressive! I'm not aggressive! I'm not aggressive! I'm not aggressive! I'm not aggressive!' for quite a long time.
chris-budget aka 'bunnyhops'
I would have laughed.
Theoretically her friend was the one that accused me of being the biggest scenester on DiS.
at the Forum. I was sat in the front row of the balcony seating and slumped on the barrier pouring Red Stripe on the unfortunate people below.
i refuse to believe it.
busted! ive never even seen slayer live
October All Over (but it was more of a doze, I had consumed too much alcohol, and I was drowsy.)
All American Rejects @ Reading Fest 2003.
but in a GOOD way. beer + whisky + hotdog + carpet + dreamy music = zzzzzz
worth it though - my power nap meant I was feeling awesome all evening. Sleeping through bands - the new ecstacy?
asleep watching a band.....you're standing up to watch them aren't you?
we were both very tired, but pelican were being incredibly dull.
my ones for the list:
quite a few bands at atp2 :(
then that evolved into lying down, which evolved into sleep.
Nine Black Alps
2. broken social scene
Hope Of The States (fell asleep when they started, woke up after they'd finished)
Sleater Kinney (ATP)
Some metal band (in a chair, in the middle of the "crowd" + proper snoring. Felt bad afterwards.)
Not all of those reflected the quality of the performance.
many years ago at ULU, over the lighting desk, whilst doing their light show. Their blurb did state that people had fallen asleep at their shows.
Youthmovies at ATP2
I also fell asleep during Youthmovies at ATP. Snap!
... but I'm aware of someone who fell asleep during Jimi Hendrix's Isle Of Wight set in the late 60s. How embarrassing.
An old boss of mine was there - she really wanted to see him, but when the time came she was passed out stoned and coming off acid at the same time. "No matter," she thought, "I'll see him next time he plays..."
Download 2006....my face got so sunburnt it looked like it was made out of wood
at Benicassim. I was in the bandstand. it was BORING!
I've seen bands which have been boring, but just...how?
was sitting down
where there's a nice comfy place just to have a lie down...
The Kooks (eugh)
Some band with a fat guy with mickey mouse ears.
at the ATP they curated. Set was far too long.
fell asleep during wolf eyes atp 2006. i was severely hungover and they sent me into this weird trance and i kept nodding off. bizarre
though technically I passed out drunk in John Doe's and Exene's car (funnily enough!) and never made it into the concert.
Sam Prekop of Sea & Cake fame although I only actually dozed off because I was standing.
