Wait until he finds out that God is black*
*if God existed.
knew this was coming, im mates with his nephew, he told me last week he was really ill.
my bird flu joke was swiftly made redundant
Cue the backlash.
Fuck him, he's a racist and i'm far too liberal and open minded to find him funny. I read the Guardian and only hang round with handicapped black lesbian midgets etc
on DiS to be a rabid-right-wing reactionary? Ive only been on here a few weeks and GayGuevara seems to be representative of a number of Did users.
But what do i know? im just a wet-Guardian reading liberal :-/
DiS - sorry.
GayGuevara's schtick seems to be based on majority of DiSers being pansy-assed liberals. I don't know if he's succeeded in getting the reaction he's looking for yet, I don't pay much attention to him.
i'm not clever enough to have a schtick.
I was just pre-empting everyone calling him a racist cunt. Which, it would seem, they did!
defending the type of jokes he made, but as a general point, why should he change his opinions because popular opinion changed? Would you change your opinion on something just because everybody else does? And I don't believe that people did stop finding it funny. Without having any evidence to base this on, I bet he was packing out comedy clubs til the day he died.
said it was fine.
or at least someone with the same name
on a spending spree?
but still, think of the family.
I sat on his lap once i have been told..he used to frequent my dad's restaurant
Funniest thing he's done yet.
this is a start! after watching the kind of things he said on 100 greatest comedians my hatred for him hit a new level.
whether i'm on a high horse of morality or not, i'm not sad that the cunt is dead.
who was ordered by his doctors to lose five stones or die...has today lost five stones."
a fookin' disgrace"
"looney toad quack"
its not pleasant, but some are just absurd and funny although i can see where people might take offence.
i've just cried all the water out of my body
bernard manning was the kind of racist you forgive your grandparents for being. nothing more.
he's not quite on a par with the Nick Griffins and Richard Littlejohns of this world.
with this. He was from a diferent generation when things like this were more acceptable. That's not necessarily excusing what he said, more giving a reason behind it. Or at least a reason as to why what we see as extremely offensive today, may only have been mildly effensive to people of his generation.
You were left with the impression that, although he was something of a dinosaur who refused to move with the times, he wasn't a BNP card-carrying "kick 'em all out" fascist and that he actually had no real problems with black people on an individual level.
This doesn't excuse the jokes, and indeed in a sense makes his insistence on continuing to make racist jokes a tad pathetic. But I think restlessboy is right that it was more of a generational thing than genuine Nick Griffiths/Richard Littlejohn-style hatred.
documentary. that's pretty much what informed my opinion of him.
his jokes just seemed to be built on silly stereotypes rather than hatred.
crucially he seemed more than aware that the premise for these stereotypes wasn't actually true. but it was just done for humour. people naturally gravitate to in and out groups and the differences between those groups shouldn't be airbrushed out. humourous observation of differences is fairly harmless as long as it's not a mask for something more deep-rooted and sinister - which of course it often is.
"he wasn't racist- he took the mick out of blacks, muslims, irish, everyone really"
"the most important thing in showbuisness is putting bums on seats, and he did that"
Did Frank Carson say that Asians had no sense of humour during that interview on BBC News this morning?
What a cunt!
that's why he thinks asians have no sense of humour.
well, bernard manning facts anyway.
he used to own my local football club.
and he lived next door to an asian friend of mine at school. who said he was actually a thoroughly decent bloke and really generous.
...lots of people do that though. Fair play for that facet of what he did. BUT...
I am getting thoroughly sick this last day or so of reading stuff about how he cut through political correctness and all that shit. I have the filthiest sense of humour imaginable but I never found racism funny. Is that so wrong?
but I think the argument is the humour wasn't racist within the climate it emerged. I don't know if that's an excuse or not.
Bernard Manning is fat.
It's a fucking disgrace.
Absolutely hilarious man. Sadly missed.
how "edgy" and "controversial" and wrighty
You can do better
he just used jokes the majority of people on here would use if it didn't mean them probably losing social standing because of it. Instead they go for more acceptable targets, like anti Scots/scouse sentiments. Racism is a genetic thing with the English, all to do with upbringing, surroundings and history
Racism is genetic because it's "all to do with upbringing, surroundings and history"
I can't imagine where you stand on the nature/nurture debate. In a parallel dimension perhaps.
