It might be good.
I got a bit bored and read the books over a weekend a few weeks ago. They were pretty good. I'm reading the first one again right now.
I reckon the movie might be good. It's got Daniel Craig in it. He's always good.
hum.......not sure. Talking animals are more believable in a book than on film.
Nonsense! What about... uhm... fuck... Oh! Scooby Doo?
i find it cringe-worthy when they give a real animal a voice. When i say real, i mean computer generated....which is, in a sense, a kind of cartoon i guess.......so ......er.........
why its being called Golden Compass.
Northern Lights is an alright name.
like to change things.
out of the film.
Apparently americans cant deal with christianity and religion being scrutinized or something.
I think I remember reading that somewhere and that the church was not going to be mentioned, so the name would be changed.
I'm still looking forward to see how the story turns out, as in the trailer heresy is mentioned so they can't have entirely given up on it.
i'm really looking forward to this movie, the books were very good.
and hopefully they'll do a harry potter and give it to us using the books british name
As I say, they've changed the name of the church in it so it's not be mentioned directly.
I think they are just going to be calling it the Magisterum even though that was just a branch of the church in the books.
They're making a calculated risk that they can downgrade the overt stabs at organised religion, and it won't necessarily affect the relationships between characters impact of the various other themes running through the story - which I assume they think can stand up on its own.
Worked for Starship Troopers.
"You kill bugs good, Jonny!"
another great book ruined.
Fuck you New Line Cinema. What is your problem?
it was shit?
not incredibly optimistic.
he did about a boy too. what a pedigree!
i will track down every member responsible and murder them.
that that particular director had pulled out because he decided it was too much for him to take on. I think that's what happened....
I'm on about my 5th/6th read-through. Fantastic stuff.
Apprehensive about the film, but I know I'll go see it a few times, buy the special DVD, act like a total dork, etc.
filming parts of it in Oxford over the last few days
Elpis - a jackel.
outgoing, spontaneous, humble, dependable and flexible.
Anexa - a hare.
(I am) "Spontaneous, modest, sociable, shy and proud"
Though, she's female. I should have a male dæmon, what with being a raving homosexualist and all.
outside Lincoln's Inn last weekend. It crossed my mind that it could have been them. It would make a good surrogate Oxford college.
the locations of choice have been Queens College and the Rad Cam.
but the second and third will be bloody hard for them to make into coherent films without them being ridiculously long. Also, there are some important bits (like the "heaven" bit in the third book) that won't make sense if they remove the religious element.
Casting wise, Daniel Craig and Nicole Kidman are pretty much perfect for the roles, so that's a good start...
Is this guy rich then? Why's he living in a flat?
That's religiony, right?
Some parts of the film look quite cool, especially the bears. Actually, most of it looks quite cool. The font they used for the title and the credits is a bit tacky though.
that should have just been left alone.
Why doesn't Hollywood just do what Family Guy does and use giant manatees to piece together new ideas? Anything but another fucking remake/sequel/prequel/adaptation/Cameron Diaz vehicle.
Is the animation on Iorek's mouth. It looks shit. But I guess that's not been finished yet (?)
be post-production and stuff to do yet.
I'm all kinds of excited.
I just know I'm going to buy four copies of Empire in December to have the inevitable Lyra, Asriel, Coulter, Pantelaimon covers... the chess set, the trading cards, the Pannini stickers, the Official Serafina pine twig thing.
I should get out more.
forward to this movie, having just finished reading the third book. I think they're fucking astounding.
Two of the guys in my local work as costume designers on films, and one of them just spent three weeks living in Switzerland, being airlifted onto a glacier every day just to hang around in beautiful scenes and drink tea and fix the odd button. The bastard.
