They're going to broadcast the N word apparently...
Im going to watch it tonight, for the first time.
at least 2 others said it too. Scapegoat much?
"At the end of the day" has already been said twice.
Charlie is a Beeeee Yotch
exists to me as "the one that argues with everyone"?
Also, what the fuck is up with the diary room? It looks like something from bladerunner.
And BB is NEW RAVE this year, I likes it though.
I said in an earlier thread that i thought my english teacher was weird for liking it, but theres nothing funnier than everyone running around then one of the stopping and saying "fuck it, ill have a fag instead".
"There's more to condoms than meets the eye"
Let it take you.
look about 12.
And the "racist" one looks like Patsy Kensit.
and only put white people in the house.
but I'm sorry that diary room looks rubbish. I'm sure the joke is apparantly on the contestants but unfortunately its not actually amusing.
...it was all flashing when they had the mini 'Rave' yesterday.
You're fucking indoors love.
There seems to be annoying women rowing over socks.
who put all women in the house? Arguement central.
She sure loves her make-up
Quite a few times!
...did she even feel the need to say it?
Also "I'm not offended"
"But I can't believe you said that"
that was shit
he misses his dog
over a race row!! you think they can just let that go? the show would be cancelled.
it wasn't said in a 'you are a __' way, but in this uber PC world you just can't say it. esp on channel4 at the moment.
though charley is totally overreacting.
I reckon there's more reason for kicking Charley out for being such an absolute fucking twat.
I feel a bit sorry for Emily. Very naive and stupid, but no malicious intent at all.
I suspect she'd have been let off with a warning.
She clearly didn't mean to be offensive but she was stupid and did misjudge the whole thing (based on Charley's reaction too).
Luckily this time it will probably be seen as a joke and not an attempt to offend a nation.
Silly cow. I think seeing it on TV made it seem more racist than it did in the transcript.
she didn't even accompany it with an BRRRRRRRRRAP hand whip thing
I've watched half an episode of this series and thats enough.
I mean she said something stupid, got quite rightly told off for it and it was made clear to her it was unacceptable. I'm pretty sure just based on Charley's reaction she'd think twice before ever doing it again/
I don't think Channel 4 really needed to take any action - it was actually a pretty good model of how people can tackle racism and ignorance on a personal level without 'official' involvement.
The only responsibility Channel/the BB production team have in these sorts of situations is surely to assure that conflict within the house remains at a safe level.
"Emily was booted from the house at 3:30am today for using the word 'n*gger'"
CAN ANYONE GUESS WHAT THE LETTER * IS?
remember the "my wife's a n*gger" saga? Good times...
I really wanted someone to accidentally report what was said and set off a whole chain of sackings.
whole dancing thing...? She was taliking about her pushing our a baby. I found Laura saying "we're sitting here with two people who are different" more offensive.
this whole thing is sooooo fucking retarded.
I honestly don't know what more to say
please leave the DiS house.
if you associate the word 'retard' with the mentally disabled
in which case you're mentally disabled-ist
Your giving the word "sick" negative connotations. So you're basically discriminating against anyone that is, has ever been, or ever will be ill.
Im actually pretty offended. That was just SO not cool.
..you're offending...*blah blah blah*
I reckon if Charley hadn't reacted like that, she wouldn't have been kicked out.
Galloway on BBLB after? hilarious.
Me and some friends were pretty high one night, so we put on the george galloway podcasts. It's like he pays people to phone up the station with really anti-liberal views just so george galloway can show off how loving he is by shouting them down.
Plus, to separate the segments theres a jingle that goes simply like this
"George galloway: NO SURRENDER!"
At the time it was hilarious.
about *socks* than they did about the n word. Irony, innit
AS WIERD. RETARDS
Isn't that just an invitation for her to say it again!
yeah we say it all the time back home.
No we don't.
...like poking a kitten.
oh yes you did.
To be fair, she does have a point.
but their hands are tied.
political correctness gone mad!! ask clarkson, clarkson knows....hehe
I still think it's a mistake. Clearly this was quite different to the Shilpa Shetty thing.
I think it would be far more productive to leave her to face the consequences from the housemates - it's not like it was presented in a positive way or acceptable anyway.
once she's out, who gives a crap.
she'll be all up in our faces in every magazine and every paper and news programme for the next week.
Are there any niggers here tonight? Could you turn on the house lights, please, and could the waiters and waitresses just stop serving, just for a second? And turn off this spot. Now what did he say? "Are there any niggers here tonight?" I know there's one nigger, because I see him back there working. Let's see, there's two niggers. And between those two niggers sits a kike. And there's another kike— that's two kikes and three niggers. And there's a spic. Right? Hmm? There's another spic. Ooh, there's a wop; there's a polack; and, oh, a couple of greaseballs. And there's three lace-curtain Irish micks. And there's one, hip, thick, hunky, funky, boogie. Boogie boogie. Mm-hmm. I got three kikes here, do I hear five kikes? I got five kikes, do I hear six spics, I got six spics, do I hear seven niggers? I got seven niggers. Sold American. I pass with seven niggers, six spics, five micks, four kikes, three guineas, and one wop. Well, I was just trying to make a point, and that is that it's the suppression of the word that gives it the power, the violence, the viciousness. Dig: if President Kennedy would just go on television, and say, "I would like to introduce you to all the niggers in my cabinet," and if he'd just say "nigger nigger nigger nigger nigger" to every nigger he saw, "boogie boogie boogie boogie boogie," "nigger nigger nigger nigger nigger" 'til nigger didn't mean anything anymore, then you could never make some six-year-old black kid cry because somebody called him a nigger at school."
He really did.
give us some decent shit.
thank fuck this is on channel4.
apparently the channel 4 commissioner will be "answering questions"
give him hell
he's pulling no punches! he said it! he bloody said it!
of language lecturer loves that quote. FACT
"oh charley deserves everything after the horrid time shes had to go through"
that black celebrity guy just said the most sexist thing
i'm fucking appalled
been nice knowing you all
Jeez, that joke even bored me.
it's actually turned into a massive non-event. The whole thing was sorted out in the house, and the situation was so inconsequential to start with that there's absolutely nothing you can say about it.
I wanted to give Emily a huge hug when she was being booted out though. She looked so sweet, bless her.
Also, I wish Charley would stop laying into people like that. She's the most aggressive woman i've ever seen.
i went into a shop and emily was working in there and we went for a walk. it was lovely, i think i fell in love with her or something.
i dislike her, regardless of the race thing. although credit to her, she brought indie to the masses!
in this country
'it was all sorted out in the house' thing that people are saying. Charley and Nicky were clearly disturbed by Emily's use of the word - hence why they were still talking about it, and debating it's meaning, just before Emily was called into the diary room.
Even though Charley initially said to Emily that she knows she didn't mean to cause offence (which is true), it was obviously still playing on the girl's mind - WHY has this girl just addressed me as 'nigger?' etc. Even as she was trying to downplay it and forget the issue, she kept expressing her shock at being called that word, in place of her actual name. She was quite evidently bothered by it, even if she wasn't outright 'offended'.
Emily deserved to be admonished for what she said. While I think that perhaps Big Brother should have tried to promote discussion about it rather than just kick her out, it's risky for them to do that, and they probably took the right course of action.
Emily doesn't, however, deserve to be branded a racist bitch by the tabloids, which I imagine is what could well happen. She definitely needs to consider the implications that come with using the word she used, particularly when she addresses it to a black girl who she's only known for ten days. It seemed like an attempt on Emily's behalf to forge closeness and friendship - but if she thinks being friends with a black person means being allowed to call them 'nigger' then there's something seriously wrong in her outlook.
except perhaps I should have said "it would have all been sorted out in the house". It would have made a good example of how people deal with racism in a positive way without "authority" having to get involved...
thats pretty obvious
and Charley was more interested in how the outside world would see the usage of the word. And i think Charley's attention seeking and self serving side (yeah, the one that occupies 90% of her being) made her keep going on about it.
conscious of the outside world's perception, she seemed to be genuinely affected by it as well. The discussion she was having with Nicky seemed to me a genuine attempt to understand the reasons and motivations behind Emily calling her 'nigger'. I dunno... her behaviour didn't seem calculated or manipulative at all to me tonight. I wouldn't be surprised if - after finding out Emily's been evicted - she begins to take advantage of the situation though.
