Is two dogs of different breeds having sex with each other comparable to a human having sex with a chimpanzee?
That's why I was impressed by the obscurity.
because two dogs of different breeds are comparable to two people of different races.
Asides from Pygmies (spelling?) there is nowhere NEAR the range of diversity between different human races and dog breeds.
Wouldn't it actually be more like a modern-day human having sex with a Neanderthal?
What about the 'stone-age' tribes in the jungles etc?
If they have been essentially within the same gene pool for thousands of years?
are less genetically similar to Homo sapiens than was once thought.
The standard nomenclature is Homo neanderthalensis - they were a different species. Basically like the European version of humans - probably little or no gene flow for several hundred thousand years
the underlying genetic similarities in terms of DNA are fairly equal. what those genes code for outwardly is more dramatic in dogs.
a pekinese and a great dane are still the same species because they can breed and have fertile offspring.
to be the pekinese in that situation.
reach. And fit.
although I could be wrong.
I thought all races of people were pretty much genetically the same whereas I imagined, say, a St Bernard and a Chinhuahua wouldn't be.
dogs are specifically bred for their characteristics. The difference between breeds is based on lots of very superficial morphological changes.
Human diversity has a lot more to do with environmental adaptation and sexual selection.
Human and chimpanzee aren't biologically the same species.
While every sort of dog is Canis Canis.
Even wolf/dog having sex is not comparable to human/chimpanzee.
be like domestic cat/lion
Rolf Harris is gonna bust yo face up. And that.
were originally bred from wolves.*
apart from in australia where they might have used dingos.
Cat is Felix Catus.
Lion is Panthera Leo.
While dog is Canis Canis while wolf is Canis Lupus. ( if I remember correctly ).
is like tiger/lion.
Meaning they can reproduce...
are really impressing me with your knowledge on this subject.
anthropology at university. Hence the Neanderthal/genetics knowledge
I always wondered what would happen if humans were selectively breeded for characteristics in a similar way what would happen but apperantly wolves are the only species that contain such diversity (according to QI)
dogs = all same species
humans & chimps = not the same species
A human and a chimpanzee are different species. If animals of two different species breed with each other, the offspring won't be fertile. For example when a donkey and horse have a baby mule, the mule can't have babies of it's own. Dogs are all one species, but vary in breed. I guess different breeds of dogs is more like different races of people. Although dog breeds vary much more than races of people do..
anybody else fancy repeating the answer to this question in slightly different words?
