I've heard great things about Krakow and Dubrovnik. Has anyone actually been?
Any other places people can recommend?
Krakow has mountains very near by which are pretty jaw dropping. Dubrovnik is also cool. There's more war history visible there if you find that interesting.
Ljubljana is really cool and after that you can take a quick train out to Lake Bled which is this:
You can swim out to the island where the little chapel is on a good day.
Plus it's all relatively cheap....
i thoroughly recommend it!
The castle, the market square, the cathedral, the salt mine, its all good.
All the bars are agreat, especially in the jewish district, where they are all in centuries old buildings and candlelit. Also the second hand clothes shops are evrywhere and they charge by weight, I was buying shirts for about 20p each!
I have also been to dubrovnik, but krakow was a more magical place for me by far..
i read this as "suggest a nice European History dissertation". :(
I would had suggestions, but i havent been to krakow or dubrovnik.
Its pretty special, although to get the full feel for it you'd have to stay in or close to the old town and theres few hotels within the walls and they're all hella expensive. The Lapad pensinsula is about 15 minutes away on the bus and its quite touristy, but you can feasibly spend all day within the old town.
If you go, I'd reccomend taking a day out and travelling on the boat to an island called Mljet about an hour away by ferry. The whole place is a national park and has a biggish lake in the interior that has a beauiful monestary in the middle. Its also apparently one ofn the only places in Europe witha thriving mongoose population.
there's a lot of self-catering apartments/bedsits in the old town which aren't too expensive
I was looking for a holiday there a few months ago, had quite a bit of trouble finding contact details for them though.
going sailing around Croatia in September, not sure where yet, but it will include being at Split. I'm very excited. Will tell be sure to tell you if it's nice :)
is great, and there's loads of amazing stuff to see/do there.
I'm going to Split and Dubrovnik in August.
Fly to Split, four nights in Split, then a night aboard a Ferry which sails and docks overight on the Island of Korcula
Then the next day, the Ferry to Dubrovnik, where we stay for another 4 nights. Then fly back from Dubrovnik.
Definitely go there!
Couldn't recommend it any more.
Best city I've ever set foot in.
Does that count as Eastern Europe? It's pretty far east. Also; north.
But how safe are these countries?
My dad is always like "OMFG DON'T GO TO THOSE EASTERN EUROPEAN COUNTRZZ!!"
Is he still stuck in the cold war, and being silly, or is there some truth to it?
although there's some gratuitous nudity at the beginning of the film which probably is suitable for minors (or indeed miners).
Although I got drugged and robbed in Istanbul once - although I guess that's not particularly Europe (yet)
To these places?
Of course, i could be looking too much into this. Perhaps now most in Europe is as dangerous/safe as each other.
I've travelled through there by myself and it's safe as houses as long as you're not stupid.
*Most countries in Europe are as
