= good in my estimation
i thought without him they'd be able to play pacier football, but it hasnt really happened.
but it doesnt really make any difference, you'll beat estonia anyway...
it'll be more interesting to see if he gets in the side once he's in LA.
but i guess they must just be instrinsically plodding and uninspired.
in this sort of situation, i usually point out that england dont have as good a team as most of the major footballing nations.
but you'd think they might make up for it with a bit of spirit on occasion. they need someone who can make them give a shit, and someone who can get results.
jose mourinho for england. :p
And of the Press picking the team. Not that that is a surprise because it was the newspapers who wanted to drop Beckham in the first place.
Irrespective of whether Beckham will do a good job, it's just short termism. We have a meaningless friendly against Brazil and a game against Estonia that even a randomly selected team of DISers ought to be able to win.
And then Beckham effectively retires from meaningful football and we are back at square one for the more difficult games next season.
and although Beckham will probably be useful to England I don't think he'll make that much of a difference.
I don't like the fact that he made a big thing of not picking Beckham to begin with and has just changed his mind now we're doing badly. Good one Steve.
He continued doing a bad thing than realise and correct a mistake?
we have no use for him !
but it doesn't solve (and possibly complicates) England's main problem of finding a balanced midfield without him.
What frustrates me is that McClaren came in promising pacy football using the wings but has never really picked 2 wingers for England.
This is one of the first games where Lennon & Joe Cole are both fit and we could try to have some real pace on the flanks. That said, it might be fine if Beckham plays so long as we pick a midfield that works with him.
I really hope it isn't Lampard & Gerrard in the centre and Beckham on the right as it'll feel like we're right back where started.
A Good Thing.
i'd tell mclaren to stick it, after the way he dropped him.
So football managers aren't allowed to drop players anymore?
I don't see any reason why Beckham should be upset - McLaren's perfectly entitled to pick who he likes.
he rang him to tell him he'd been dropped. surely a player of beckham's standard and dedication to the team deserves at least a face to face meeting. a phone call is a disgusting way to do it.
McLaren = Pussy
It was a sultry, overcast afternoon as I reclined languidly on the verandah of the old house in Nampur, mint julep in hand. The crickets were singing. It was 1878, perhaps '79. A sense of forboding pervaded the air: thick - almost graspable.
He arrived that day, and I knew nothing would ever be the same again.
it can only be good in my eyes
That's what Carrick is for, and Hargreaves when fit.
with one striker upfront, seeing as both Rooney and Johnson are missing.
