IN YOUR FACE RAPSCALLION!
joey barton > hleb ?
frank lampard > scholes ?
how has he scored so many points? Do you get marked on pace and inability to finish?
agbonglahor's had a really good season actually. lots of goals at the start and end.
to make that very same joke.
I don't rate agbonglahor. There, i've said it.
but i think he's pretty decent.
It's the fact that Hleb plays for a proper club?
hleb would be one of the best midfielders in europe if he actually knew how to shoot. it might be something he picks up at some point but right now he's the most frustrating player since Anders Limpar.
he doesn't have the pace or skill to be anywhere near one of the best in europe.
he IS better than i claim. but still unlikley to even be one of the best in the prem if he could finish.
Hleb is technically superb.
the premiership definitely. In his position that is.
his position being right wing? left wing?
i'm not saying he's Zidane or anything.
specific really. but if you're suggesting he's only finishing away from being one of the best in europe you're basically comparing him with ronaldo, robben etc.
and i don't think he's in that league at all.
he's a typical wenger wide player though, in that he'll cut inside and make late runs whilst the fullbacks do the proper 'winger' duties.
ljungberg used to score hatfuls from the same position, and hleb's all-round play is better, it's just that he has this mental block in front of goal.
he can pull off ridiculously elaborate things despite playing in a league that doesn't usually allow it, and he's often the only player to get behind packed midfields when arsenal are playing ultra-defensive sides.
but then he gets to the box and panics like a fucker.
i can't remember ever seeing him do anything intricate.
bloody glory hunter
purely because i've had too much work.
next season i'm an emirates regular. fo reals.
not that i'm changing my allegiance at all.
because without one I doubt you will be a regular.
but a friend has some form of ticket thing that he assures me will let him get two tickets for most games.
god knows what it is. but i'll certainly make more games than i do now...
but look at the amount of times he manages to dribble past players. barely anyone does that in the premiership. he's so often the player that really starts a move because he's so good at getting into space with the ball.
if i see him pass to a centreback when he's in the box one more time though, i may well take all this back and try to hunt him down and slap him.
but he just seems to start well when he dribbles, then runs into about eight players and doesn't achieve anything.
and he used to do it all the bleedin' time in his first season, but he gets the passes off more now.
if he scores 10 league goals next season i'll be 'chuffed', because he already does loads in the build up to chances and that.
i'll accept that, i haven't seen as much of him this season really, so i'm kind of just going off last season.
The only thing that Hleb is good at is looking malnourished and AIDS-ridden.
a spurs fan with an intelligent and insightful opinion.
Although it doesn't take much insight to realise Hleb's flaws as both a footballer and a healthy human being. Even my gooner mates (in the loosest sense) think he's a bit useless...
who isn't interested in football.
me > rich
not bad for a "shit player having a shit season"
conclusive proof that statistics don't tell you anything.
conclusive statistics based on performance that can't be 'made up'
for example, rooney hasn't had a great season, scholes has.
but, scholes might play a great pass to rooney who taps it to richardson who scores.
rooney and richardson get good statistics, scholes played the good football.
also, ronaldo has been better than drogba. yet he's top. so all in all, ignore it!
You lot seem to be making a big fuss over it.....
So, Rooney and Richardson combining in that way isn't "good football"? That led to a goal being scroed? Being in the right position?
i'm saying that if you looked at that move statistically, certainly the way these stats are made, richardson would get more points than rooney and scholes would have none.
which would suggest richardson > rooney > scholes.
but if you watched the game you'd go entirely the opposite.
also, rich was merely making a point about hleb vs. malbranque, and it was pretty much refuted by the fourth post.
but I guess my point was that if Lamps had had such a shit season anyway, he wouldn't even be anywhere near the top 50, let alone top 5.
I was a bit surprised because he hasn't been at the top of his game this year, but he keeps plugging away. I'm hoping after the summer break, he is back to his peak.
Also, I don't think Richardson is terrible, he needs a decent run in the team - natural successor to Giggs' left wing days? i'm not comparing them, before you moan.
i think richardson and fletcher are pretty good professionals.
but not man utd standard. i personally think if richardson went to, say, tottenham and fletcher to everton, then they'd both do really well.
is number 5 Frank Lampard per chance? If so, the number of shots he has he ought to be in the top 5.
has had the most shots this season.
That is all.
but it doesn;t contribute much to the conversation.
Berbatov has elevated spurs to dizzy new heights.
has been better than Ronaldo.
Who has been pretty crap this last month.
against Milan and Chelsea. i.e. when it counted.
think the number of games he's played and his age kind of excuses the final, where he just looked exhausted.
in milan the conditions didn't help, and the entire team didn't perform.
in both games i'd actually blame fergie's tactics for not helping him somewhat. but i've had that argument before...
But he isn't THAT young.
you're pretty young.
and i think you'd be fairly tired after being that good for a whole season.
I'm ALWAYS that good.
and never tired.
moaning about 'number of games', 'playing conditions' and 'age' normally get you yelled at and called a cunt by fellow people on this website.
Thought they weren't excuses?
really. i'm just saying it's understandable for a 22 year old to fade.
we deserved to lose to milan. and everyone deserved to lose that final.
but i think it was very indicative of why i hate chelsea.
especially mourinho's comment afterwards about enjoying the match or after the match.
but, i mainly think we'd lost as soon as we played fletcher instead of smith.
I think we did boss the midfield, particulary 2nd half. You looked dangerous on the break though.
Maybe Smith would've added more bite, but Essien and Makalele were superb that day, hardly anything got by them.
my thoughts tactically though are that ronaldo, rooney and giggs create things. and therefore need someone in front to pass to.
scholes and carrick too.
in playing how we did the only passes the midfield has were either long to a winger with no one to cross to, backwards, or short pointless passes to fletcher.
we were never going to boss the midfield, but if we had played two up front we might have been able to play through it quickly enough to hurt you.
both times i think we've played into the opponents hands by condensing everything into a midfield battle when we don't have the type of player that's particularly good in those kind of scraps.
big shout out to Paolo Ferreria too - he kept him on quite a short leash and FINALLY had a good game for once this season!
Your full backs couldn't handle the pace of SWP and Robben - they looked very uncomfortable every time they picked up the ball. Rooney was your most dangerous player - he had a couple of good chances, but Essien was fucking immense.
Next season is going to be awesome methinks!
had the beating of essien more often than not.
but to actually score he'd have had to beat your entire back line on his own.
yeah ferreira played well. brown's an utterly useless right back though, we really need to get a decent replacement for neville.
to John O'Shea, or was it a case of "a lesser of two evils"?
he's a better defender i guess. but neither of them should be considered really.
browns crossing is absolutely shocking.
is an impressive season for us and proves we're on the up. Berbatov's obviously been instrumental in this and is an awesome player to watch, so i'm very happy. It's been a while since we've had a player of his calibre - best striker in the premiership? He's definitely up there and thus we have to keep him if we have serious ambitions for 3rd spot (4th behind Man U, Chelsea and Liverpool is a given next season...)
in the prem.
drogba, persie, henry, rooney
are all arguably better. amongst others.
even if you truly believe those strikers you mentioned are better, he's clearly not 'nowhere near' them. Remember this is his first season here, the guy oozes class and is up there with Drogba...Van Persie's good, if a little rape-prone; Henry's obviously superb but a little arrogant and blinkered nowadays and Rooney's just a bit rubbish for england.
ok, that's fair.
'Van Persie is good...if a little rape-prone'
Both unfunny and pathetic.
I love how sensitive you get when we talk about the Arsenal.
its just not funny.
To be fair, I always give credit where credit is due and say when you play well. Most of the time you mention us its just childish abuse.
as being good players. I don't rate Hleb but then that's just my opinion.
The fact of the matter is though that it WAS funny.
dirty dirty arsenal.
surely the only person in the country who actually trusts statistics such as these outside of football manager is Steve "Pro-zone" McLaren.
just to small for the prem, wenger needs to plump him up
but I'm yet to see him believe in the version of reality the numbers suggest over what his eyes saw on the pitch in the way McLaren does.
says stuff like, "yeah, even though we lost 3-0 the stats show we were less dehydrated than them so we deserved to win the game."
is better than Malbranque !
